Hello ACSIANS! Welcome back to Mindset Matters.

At Antipolo City Senior High School, we believe that mental health is not just an individual concern but a shared responsibility. Through empathy, awareness, and genuine connection, we strengthen our community. This interview highlights the

commitment of our School Principal, Ma’am Liza Banayo, who continuously supports both learners and employees by building safe spaces, encouraging peer support, and fostering a culture of care. Mindset matters and together, we make healing possible.

[Question 1] How can you help school employees and learners cope with their mental health issues and become more productive workers of Antipolo City Senior High School?

Ma'am Liza Banayo:
Since we are celebrating noh Mental Health Day... actually kasama rin dito ung...Su***de Prevention Month
Dito sa eskwelahan natin, we are really encouraging...noh, to improve our mental health by conducting different activities. So unang una, we are coordinating always together with the office of the registered guidance counselor and I appreciate the help of our

AKAP members kasi kayo talaga yung nakakatawang ng ating guidance counselor sa...mga learners natin
Kasi doon talaga un eh dahil kayo ang ina-identify ng mga learners na...they are more comfortable... talking with their peers instead of...with their teachers siguro dahil nahihiya sila so...with your blessings, mas makakatulong sa ating mga learners

And para naman sa part ko as a school head and para naman sa part naman ng mga employees...so nandun yung suport natin especially kapag may na-identify tayo na "Ma'am may need ako sa ganito"...so nandun yung assistance natin..na ibigay..magbigay ng verbal pieces of advice and then may referral rin tayo kung saan sila pwedeng pumunta at mas matulungan sila ng mga

professionals...kasi syempre as head hindi ako expert as regards to that pero I always make sure na nandun yung support mg office of the principal and then...kagaya nung sa celebration ng teacher's day,so that's part...hinahanap natin sila na maging true sila sa kanilang sarili...parang bumalik sa pagkabata nila, na habang sila ay nag eenjoy, naglalaro..so though I wasn't here during the

celebration because I was attending the training...so nandun ung...I was always keeping in touch kung ano ung mga activities to be conducted

So that's one form, and uh...pangungumusta rin lagi kapag sila ay nakikita kasi hindi all the time na ma me-meet mo sila...bawat isa sa kanila

And that's one way rin na you will visit their office, halimbawa pupunta ako sa registrar..."kumusta na kayo?" So ung mga simpleng pangungumusta...so that's one way rin... of ah..kumbaga sabihin na i-support ung mental health nila...kasi sa pamamagitan ng simpleng salita, pangungumusta...I think, it has an impact...kasi I'm also putting myself to the shoes of everyone...so what if ano,

halimbawa nakakaexperience ng ganito...kapag ba may magsabi sa akin ng kamusta, how would I feel?...so of course... masarap sa p**iramdam and then ung

kapag...meron kang ano...i-share mo rin ung personal experience mo, kasi by sharing personal experience...ah hindi pala ako lang ang nakaka experience ng ganito...so by doing that...somehow, I know nakakatulong tayo, ang mahalaga don, andun ung support natin sa kanilang lahat...and ung pagbibigay natin ng ah...

ang trabaho, hindi yan nauubos, talagang everyday may trabaho tayo that's part of life and ung mga challenges... that's part...kasi nga kapag wala...sabi nga natin yang challenges, that's the spice of life... hindi magiging masarap ang buhay kung walang

challenges...kaya kailangan natin malakas yung support system...so ung support system nila sa admin, and then support system ko rin para sa kanila....

so un pa pala strong collaboration, and ung unity kung ano man ung mga dapat gawin sa paaralan.... at ung mga simple reminder din sa kanila para sa ating mga learners...kasi ang mga learners

talaga natin ngayon, we acknowledge na andaming mga challenges at iba iba so as long as andyan tayo to support them...malaking tulong yon...so un very simple lang pero i know na makakatulong yon

[Question 2] What can peer navigators do to help learners cope with personal-social, Academics, and career issues?

Ma'am Liz Banayo:
Actually ang hirap magbigay ng advice kasi...iba iba kasi ang na e-experience natin...pwede etong piece of advice makatulong sa isang tao...tas sa isa...it depends on the situation

Minsan kasi kagayan nyan halimbawa...sa mga klase, ung sa lesson ninyo na may ma to-touch ung ganitong topic...kaya dapat andun ung awareness...yun siguro ung 1 word na masasabi na na you should be aware of the people around us

So awareness and being sensitive to the needs of your surroundings…

This interview reminds us of the meaningful insights shared by our School Principal,
Ma’am Liza Banayo from the power of simple β€˜Kamusta?’ moments to the importance of awareness, sensitivity, and strong support systems. Every act of care matters, and every conversation helps build a healthier school community.

At AKAP, we stand for compassion, collaboration, and the belief that no learner or teacher should face their struggles alone. As we continue advocating for mental wellness, may we carry this message forward: support is powerful, unity is healing, and together, we rise stronger for Antipolo City Senior High School.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ma’am Liza for her wisdom, time, and unwavering commitment to our ACSIANS’ well-being.

βœ¨πŸŽ„ Holiday mood check, ACSHSians!

Kamusta ka na ngayon? Oo, ikaw! Malapit na ang year-end break, pero ramdam pa rin ba ang pagod sa requirements, quizzes, at kung anu-anong kailangan tapusin bago magpahinga? πŸ˜πŸŽ’

O baka naman you’re already in full Christmas modeβ€”counting down the days, planning outfits for the year-end party, at nag-iisip na rin ng mga pagkain na kakainin mo? πŸŽ‰πŸ½οΈ

Whatever you’re feeling right now, we want to hear from you!

Share your feels, ACSHSians
we’re here to listen, celebrate, and survive the last stretch of the year together. πŸ’™βœ¨

πŸ’›βœ¨Mindset Matters ✨ πŸ’›

Welcome back, ACHISANS! MindMatters is officially opening its emotional doors again yes, the place where your feelings are valid, your stress is understood, and your academic breakdowns are treated with love and professional guidance. With Dr. Phillip Ramir L. Punzalan back in action, consider this your friendly reminder that you’re never alone whether you need counseling, a confidence boost, or just a safe space to breathe between quizzes.

1. How can you inspire our students and learners get access to Free Mental Health Care Services in our communities?

I am inspiring our students and learners to get free mental health care services in our communities by advocating my support through online counseling and free face-to-face counseling for those people in need of my professional expertise, as well as the community's needs through church, educational, and socio-civic affiliations. It will foster good opportunities to help the community's needs through speakership, community development program, and promotional guidance of those various organizations, highlighting the needs of our youth today.

I am involved through some linkages with the community professional organizations in giving mental health services through: the Philippine Mental Health Association, Psychological Association of the Philippines, the Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association, and other Community-Based Linkage partners such as: UP Volunteer Guru Mental Health Advocates, Ateneo Online Katatagan Facilitator, and UST Mental Health Responder.

I will help our learners in providing the Su***de Prevention Advocacy Program in our school through the integration into a new enhanced curriculum, teaching the subjects aligned to mental health and emotional development, which are aligned to Social Science subjects, in alleviating the minds and hearts of our learners through emotional adaptation, adjustments, and coping. I will provide counseling, daily journal reflections, and manage the stress, anxiety, and depression, dealing with all dimensions of daily conflicts through win-win approaches, through different psychological counseling approaches, and other therapies.

2. How can you help our learners be engaged in Su***de Prevention Advocacy in our school?

I am very positive about delivering the mission of serving youth experiencing suicidal tendencies. I will enhance the capability of my psycho-social support in advocating the campaign through promotional advocacy of resilience applied to the needs of teachers, students, parents, and community stakeholders toward emotional maturity.

As we enter another meaningful semester, ACHSIES, MindsetMatters remains dedicated to supporting your emotional wellness and growth. Dr. Punzalan and the team are committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care to help you navigate challenges, strengthen resilience, and flourish both inside and outside the classroom. Welcome back together, let’s build a healthier, stronger, and more empowered ACHIS community. πŸ’›βœ¨

πŸ’š MINDSET MATTERS πŸ’š
✨ A special AKAP segment featuring messages from your favorite school staff and teachers! ✨
πŸŽ™οΈ Today’s Word of Wisdom comes from: Dhyna Denolan, School Librarian

Q1: How can you or your or your office contribute in building a mentally healthy school environment?

I think our school library can also support in building mentally healthy environment, aside from promoting literacy and the love of reading or an area for studying, this also gravitates the well-being of our students as they read books especially the fictional books, whereas different themes , messages and tones can be learned from what they've read, and found a sort of realization or enlightenment on their personal feelings or perspective.

Sometimes I really have some random interviews with the students who visited the library and looked for this kind of book, and spent time to read like fictional books. I asked them why would they love to read that kind of book? And some answered, "Ma'am it is really my favorite genre and it gives me a relief from stressful situations" And there were two students who borrowed a Bible, and I asked them why did they want to read a Bible, one answered, "Ma'am I want to read the book of Revelation, because it seems to be real nowadays" and the other one answered, "Ma'am I like the Bible verses from the book of Psalm, it gives me hope to continue and go on with my life despite struggles that I am having now.”

As a library-in-charge, I also learned from those students, and it came to my realization that a library is not only an avenue of learning from reading but also a room where you can find hope amidst struggling circumstances. And I am grateful for those students who boldly shared their intentions of reading books and continued their reading and study habits in the library.

πŸ“š Through the thoughtful insights of Ma’am Dhy na Denolan, we’re reminded that the library is more than just a place for books, it’s a sanctuary for reflection, emotional growth, and quiet healing. Her everyday encounters with students reveal how stories, scripture, and study can offer comfort and clarity during difficult times. πŸ’š At AKAP, we honor these safe spaces and the people who nurture them. Let’s continue to build a school environment where every ACHSians feels empowered to seek hope, express themselves, and find peace in the pages they turn. 🌈✨

πŸ’š MINDSET MATTERS πŸ’š
✨ A special AKAP segment featuring messages from your favorite school staff and teachers! ✨

πŸŽ™οΈ Today’s Word of Wisdom comes from:
Ma’am Eleanor Ann Sierra – Guidance Counselor & AKAP Adviser 🌿
πŸ˜… Okay, okay, we know! This post is waaay past our usual schedule (our clocks must be running on β€œACSHS time” β°πŸ˜‚), but hey β€” better late than never when it comes to spreading good vibes and meaningful words, right? πŸ’š

The beauty of mind over matter in catastrophes
Eleanor Ann Sierra
Learners with enhanced psychosocial skills fueled by the energy of their Adversity Quotient can cope easily from sadness, fear, anger, and other negative response as a result of their exposure to emergencies and catastrophes. Adversity quotient does not allow us to prolong the so called – It’s okay not to be okay in times of difficulties. It demands us to live with courage so we could see opportunities to gain from challenging situations, things, and behavior of people around. The most challenging experience is doing the opposite of the opportunities or blessings that you see and believe about yourself and others in times of difficulties.

Halimbawa nito ay pinapatagal si sadness, fear, at anger dahil sa kasabihan na okay lang to feel not okay until it turns to justify weaknesses, submissiveness, passiveness, laziness, and other activities suppressing the truth that you know about your power to cope and shine amidst challenges. Your power is your willingness to overcome obstacles, threats, and anything that makes your life difficult.

Ano ba ang kaya mo or kakayanin mo magawa sa iyong hangad maka recover sa tuwing ikaw ay may problema? If there is a will, there is a way. Do what you believe that there is always a way ouf of pains and sufferings. We need to strengthen our ability to recover quickly from problems. It’s okay not to be okay but for a short while. Kaya uulitin ko, p**i usap my dear ACSHS learners, Huwag na sana nating patagilin whatever makes us not okay para hindi ito mauwi sa depression, su***de, mental health issues, and life stories with sad ending. Your will power matters to enjoy life.

Huwag hayaang maging api or pa victim ang role natin during crisis situation dahil ito ay nagpap**ita ng kahinaan. This is supported by Madi (1984) who presented the elements of existential courage or hardiness during crisis which include commitment, challenge, and control. According to this literature, people with strong sense of control considers helplessness and being passive as waste of time. Embracing challenge moves us to accept that life under distressful condition has lots of advantages towards self -development.

Fulfillment is a result of no pain no gain principle. Commitment is evident to people who do not detach/alienate themselves from whatever difficulties which need to be resolved.
Moving said elements with pride and honor makes us confidently beautiful. Life is beautiful. Resilient people are truly beautiful. Choose to be beautiful at all times.

🌈 Ma’am Sierra reminds us in β€œThe Beauty of Mind Over Matter in Catastrophes” that true strength comes from within from our willpower and courage to face life’s toughest moments. It’s okay not to be okay, but only for a while. What matters is that we choose to rise, heal, and move forward with faith and heart. πŸ’ͺ✨
So, ACHISDIANS, if today feels heavy take a deep breath, smile a little, and remember: you’ve got this. 🌻 Life may throw curveballs, but resilient people like YOU are what make this world truly beautiful. πŸ’š

We might be late, but our message is right on time for anyone who needed to hear it today. 🫢

A special AKAP segment featuring messages from your favorite school staff and teachers here to remind every ACHSian that your feelings matter and your well-being counts. πŸ’š
πŸŽ™οΈ Today’s Guest: Maria Donna Mejia, SSLG Adviser

Q1: What are the 3 things in life that can help you manage mental health issues ?

Managing mental health doesn’t always require spending moneyβ€”simple, free practices can be incredibly effective. Personally, I start my day by setting positive intentions and meditating, which helps me stay focused and calm. Gratitude shifts my mindset, and exercise, even a short walk, boosts my mood. Journaling processes emotions and reduces stress. Connecting with others also supports mental well-being.

A simple strategy: place your palm on your heart and affirm, "I am safe, I am protected, and I am loved." Embracing nature is another free, powerful tool. The environment is honest, offering peace, clarity, and balance, helping us reconnect with ourselves.

Q2:How does a club/student adviser improve and maintain student leaders' self-care activities towards a balanced life ?

As an adviser, I believe the first step is to prioritize academics while ensuring that leadership roles do not compromise their studies. I always remind my student leaders that their primary reason for being in school is to succeed academically. At the same time, I help them with time management. I check the availability of the leaders so I can convene them effectively. Making sure that their schedules and task delegations are set ahead of time is important, as it helps establish a routine.

I encourage them to practice mindfulness, take regular breaks, and manage stress to avoid burnout. I also use what I call the Alphabet Planβ€”something they always hear from meβ€”which means that if one plan doesn’t work, they should have a backup ready. Don’t panic, it’s organic.
Open communication is key. I regularly ask for and check their ideas, ensuring that no idea is ever rejected. Instead, I modify or suggest improvements to preserve their sense of ownership.
Unleashing their potential is vital because it naturally emerges when they unlock possible solutionsβ€”an achievement for every student leader. This can be challenging for us advisers, as we also need to be creative.

Finally, I promote a buddy system and peer support groups, where student leaders can rely on each other, collaborate, and grow together while maintaining a healthy balance between their leadership and personal lives.

Truly, Ma’am Maria Donna Mejia reminds us that taking care of our mental health begins with simple acts of kindness toward ourselves. πŸ’š Whether it’s pausing to breathe, walking in nature, or sharing smiles with friends, every little step counts. Let’s keep nurturing positivity, balance, and compassion because here at AKAP, we believe that every ACHSian deserves to feel safe, supported, and loved. πŸŒˆπŸ’«
