Many times I have prescribed my Catholic patients to go to confession. They would return and say it was life changing.

Healing is not just the body, it also involves the mind and soul. Lent is one of the best seasons especially during Holy Week to go to confession.

Now is the best time to prepare for Holy Week and Easter, to return to the Lordโ€™s loving embrace, experience His forgiveness, and receive healing through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Dr. Kevin Moises reflects on a truth he has witnessed countless times in his practice.
โ€œMany times, I have encouraged my Catholic patients to go to confession,โ€ he shares. โ€œThey would return and tell me it was life-changing.โ€

For him, healing is never limited to the physical. A true restoration embraces the whole personโ€”body, mind, and soul. And Lent, especially the sacred days of Holy Week, offers one of the most powerful moments to receive the grace of confession.

It is in returning to God that many find the peace medicine alone cannot give.

John Bowlby's attachment theory is very useful in therapy and relationships.

John Bowlby's attachment theory is very useful in therapy and relationships.

Even the most loving parents can leave hidden emotional scars, often without realizing it.

Parenting is never as simple as it looks. Even well-intentioned, attentive parents can unknowingly influence their children in ways that lead to unhealthy attachment patterns. These patterns, like anxious, avoidant, or disorganized attachments, do not arise from nowhere. They are often shaped by the core beliefs children internalize during their earliest years.

Questions form silently in a childโ€™s mind: If my parents never seem interested in my stories, do they really care about me? If I never have a say in my choices, am I truly my own person? If Dad swings from anger to affection, am I ever truly safe? Over time, these small, everyday experiences can grow into deep-seated beliefs that shape how a child relates to the world, and how they experience closeness and trust.

Often, parents donโ€™t notice these patterns until their child starts showing signs of anxiety, withdrawal, or insecurity. But recognition is the first step toward change. Even small shifts in how you respond, listen, and show consistency can have a lasting impact on your childโ€™s emotional development.

Itโ€™s never too late to notice these patterns, and to take steps toward healthier attachments. Read our latest blog to explore how everyday parenting choices can influence your childโ€™s attachment style, and what you can do about it.

COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE EXPLAINED:
Understanding Punch the Monkey
(I usually show this experiment in one of my classes in psychology)

Punch, an international viral sensation, is a baby Japanese macaque at the Ichikawa City Zoo, who famously clings to a stuffed orangutan provided by zookeepers. Punch was abandoned by his mother shortly after birth and was rejected by older troop members.

Harry Harlowโ€™s research into mother-child bonding demonstrated that infant monkeys prioritize contact comfort over nourishment, preferring a soft cloth surrogate to a wire one that provided food. These findings proved that emotional security is a stronger foundation for attachment than feeding and that the comfort-providing "mother" functions as a "secure base" for exploration.

"The contrast in the behavior despite the fact that the wire mother nursed him, she could offer this infant nothing in the way of affection or security, but here's a monkey by rubbing against the clothed mother, as if he were seeking as much contact comfort as he could get, builds up his reservoir of affection and security. First, his body relaxes as the fear disappears, but above and beyond this, new positive response patterns appear. He now goes out to explore and investigate this new, strange world. He is now a normal, happy, curious baby." - Harry Harlow
