Horizon The official source of updates from Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital. Horizon.

Have you ever gone to the beach, stood still, and watched over the line where the sky and Earth seemed to meet? And as the sun sank beneath that line, have you wondered how far that horizon stretched…or wondered what lies beyond that boundary? A horizon is a boundary of what we can see—a range of what we know, perceive, or anticipate—but our hearts can set our vision where our eyes cannot see. The official publication of Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital heralds the age of pushing the boundaries of health service delivery as we cast our visions beyond what our eyes can see. And as we embark on the journey of discovering new territories, we break the limits of what we know, what we can accomplish, and what we can be.

By: Jennifer G. Delfin, RPh

Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) proudly recognizes the commendable dedication and performance of its pharmacists: Mr. Chilton R. Montero, RPh, and Ms. Khristine Myro G. Casabuena, RPh, for completing the Oncology Rx Training Program with flying colors, last November 30 to December 3, 2025.

The Oncology Rx Training Program is a three-day intensive course. Its first day commenced with a meaningful hospital tour at Ospital ng Makati. Through the partnership of Shu Ha Ri Training Center, Garrod Specialty Pharmacy, and the Philippine Oncology Pharmacist Practitioners Society (POPPS), participants were given an up-close look at oncology pharmacy operations and the meticulous process behind safe chemotherapy preparation, an experience that emphasized the patient-centered nature of oncology practice.

On December 1, learning continued with essential discussions on cancer pharmacotherapy, hazardous drug handling, and aseptic techniques. These were paired with hands-on exercises designed to strengthen technical skills and build confidence in managing high-risk medications. Training resumed on December 2 with additional modules and guided practice sessions, preparing participants for their final competency assessment.

By December 3, participants performed their return demonstrations, showcasing the knowledge, precision, and safety-focused mindset they had developed throughout the program. The training concluded with the awarding of the “Certificate of Completion: Oncology Rx – A Competency-Based Training on Cancer Pharmacotherapy and Aseptic Oncology Compounding.”

Ms. Casabuena and Mr. Montero’s accomplishment reflects a strong commitment to continuous professional growth and to advancing safe, competent, and compassionate oncology pharmacy practice. This short but meaningful journey strengthened their technical skills, deepened their understanding of oncology pharmacotherapy, and further renewed their commitment to delivering safe and high-quality cancer care.

CLMMRH One of the Beneficiaries of the 2025 Giving Machines
By: Mr. John Michael Gabriel T. Zaragoza - CLMMRH Public Information Officer

This 2025, the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) joins the list of beneficiaries of the Giving Machines, an annual global initiative that transforms simple acts of giving into life-changing support for communities in need. As Bacolod City welcomes its first-ever Giving Machines on December 4, 2025, CLMMRH becomes one of the chosen organizations whose patients and watchers will directly benefit from the generosity of Negrenses and visiting donors.

Spearheaded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the campaign extends to four major Philippine cities this year: Manila, Cebu, Davao, and now Bacolod. With the theme “Experience His Light,” the initiative invites the public to participate in meaningful acts of service aimed at uplifting vulnerable families, children, and individuals across the region.

The Giving Machines convert traditional vending machines into channels of charity allowing donors to “purchase” items such as food packs, hygiene kits, blankets, pillows, toys, and even medical care. Every item selected goes directly to partner organizations serving those most in need.

Since their Philippine launch in 2018, the Giving Machines have inspired thousands to give. In 2024 alone, more than 6,305 donors contributed ₱750,000 to charitable causes nationwide, with The Church also matching donations by extending an additional ₱500,000 per participating charity. Globally, the Giving Machines have generated over USD 50 million in donations since they began.

For 2025, CLMMRH’s inclusion highlights its critical role as the tertiary apex hospital of the Negros Island Region providing essential, often life-saving care to children and adults facing serious health conditions. Through the Giving Machines, donors may directly support programs that bring comfort, relief, and dignity to patients and watchers who endure long hospital stays, financial strain, or urgent medical needs.

This partnership underscores the campaign’s mission to strengthen families and uplift individuals not only spiritually but also through practical support that eases the burdens of illness. Donations directed to CLMMRH help provide comfort items, meals, hygiene supplies, and other forms of assistance that offer warmth and hope during difficult times.

The Giving Machines are located on the Second Floor of Robinsons Place Bacolod, near Daiso and Handyman, and accept both cash and digital payments, making it easy for anyone to share light this Christmas season.

CLMMRH Heart Station Successfully Performs Its First Outpatient Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)

The Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) achieved another remarkable advancement in cardiac diagnostics with the successful completion of its first outpatient Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) at the Heart Station, conducted in close collaboration with the Cardiovascular Surgery and Intervention (CVSI) Unit.

This milestone underscores CLMMRH’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to specialized cardiac services within the region. As a minimally invasive procedure that offers high-resolution visualization of cardiac structures, TEE plays a pivotal role in diagnosing complex cardiovascular conditions, guiding treatment planning, and ensuring accurate assessment of heart function. Bringing this service to an outpatient setting allows patients to receive advanced diagnostic care with greater convenience and efficiency.

The procedure was carried out by the dedicated multidisciplinary team composed of Dr. Kris Laura L. Crucero-Manuel, Dr. Darlene Sy, Dr. Dan Lester U. Tan, and Dr. Stephanie R. Varela, head of Heart Station. Their combined expertise ensured a safe, seamless, and patient-centered experience. The team was further supported by the skilled staff of the Department of Anesthesiology, whose assistance was essential in maintaining patient comfort and procedural safety.

The successful introduction of outpatient TEE at CLMMRH’s Heart Station marks a significant step forward in the hospital’s mission to provide comprehensive, accessible, and modern cardiovascular care. It also reflects the institution’s strong culture of collaboration where coordinated efforts between departments allow for continuous innovation and excellence in service delivery.

As CLMMRH continues to enhance its cardiac diagnostic capabilities, this groundbreaking achievement sets the foundation for more advanced outpatient cardiovascular procedures, ultimately benefiting patients across Negros and neighboring regions.

CLMMRH Successfully Conducts Critical Incident Training
By: Mr. Mark Paul Benedicto - Horizon Correspondent, HEDMU

The Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH), through its Health Emergency and Disaster Management Unit (HEDMU), successfully conducted a two-day Critical Incident Training last November 24 and 26, 2025. The activity aimed to strengthen the hospital’s preparedness, coordination, and response capability during high-risk emergencies.

The training opened on November 24, 2025, at Natures Village Resort - Talisay City, with resource speakers from the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), headed by PCPT Andro Ma-apni, PCPT Jester Minguez, and Julius Betio. Their lectures covered essential protocols in crisis response, including situational assessment, inter-agency communication, tactical decision-making, and the integration of law enforcement with medical and emergency operations.

To reinforce the lessons discussed, the activity culminated on November 26, 2025, at the CLMMRH ground, with a full-scale simulation exercise featuring realistic scenarios such as hostage-taking, active shooter incidents, and bomb threat management.

The simulation exercise involved the Bacolod City SWAT Team and the Bomb and Explosive Unit, whose demonstration of tactical maneuvers and coordinated action offered participants a deeper understanding of frontline crisis operations. The HEDMU staff of CLMMRH facilitated the overall activity, ensuring proper organization, safety, and evaluation of the exercises.

The two-day training highlighted the importance of continuous collaboration between the healthcare sector and law enforcement agencies. It also reinforced CLMMRH’s commitment to strengthening emergency preparedness to ensure the safety of its personnel, patients, and the community it serves.
