Mother C.B. began experiencing uterine contractions (hilab) at 7 months of pregnancy. She was admitted for labor control and steroid administration to promote lung maturity. A workup to determine the cause of preterm labor was conducted, but all results were normal. Preterm labor was controlled, and the patient was subsequently discharged.
During the interim, the patient had asthma exacerbations.
At 8 months, the patient experienced a recurrence of uterine contractions (hilab), now with ruptured membranes (pumutok ang panubigan) and dilated cervix (bukas ang kwelyo ng matres). The baby was still in a transverse presentation (pahiga), so we proceeded with an emergency cesarean section for malpresentation.
We were concerned about delivering a 32-week baby due to the risks of respiratory distress and potential need for intubation and mechanical ventilation (tutubuhan para makatulong sa paghinga).
Preterm labor—labor that starts before 37 weeks—can lead to preterm birth. If you notice frequent contractions, back pain, or unusual discharge during pregnancy, SEEK MEDICAL CARE IMMEDIATELY!
Mommy C.B. and Daddy A.B. knew how to seek timely care, which allowed us to complete steroid administration for lung maturity and promptly deliver a healthy baby. Good job, Mommy C.B. and Daddy A.B.! Congratulations!
