Arrest of Chinese national for violation of RA 3720, RA 9711 and the Consumer Act of the Philippines
On June 26, 2023, the Food and Drug Administration North Luzon Regulatory Enforcement Unit (REU) together with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) RFU3, CIDG Bulacan PFU conducted entrapment operation that led to the arrest of 53-year-old Chinese national in Brgy. Sta. Rosa, Marilao, Bulacan.
The suspect was caught in the act of offering for sale/distributing the unregistered mosquito coils with the brand name of “Wawang”. Two thousand (2,000) boxes of unregistered “Wawang” mosquito coils valued at around PHP 1.435 M were found and confiscated.
Arrested suspect together with confiscated evidence was brought to the CIDG RFU3 office for documentation and proper disposition while the remaining evidence was padlocked in the same warehouse.
Criminal complaint for Violation of Section 10. Sec 11, subsection (k) of RA 3720 as amended by RA 9711 (Food and Drug Administration act of 2009, Art. 18 (a) RA 7339 (Consumer Act of the Philippines) and sec 37 (f) of RA 10611 are being readied against the suspect.
The FDA enjoins the general public to purchase registered/notified health products only to FDA-licensed establishments.
