Hello folks! Have you ever heard of teenage pregnancy? Yes, the very same teenage pregnancy that is troubling the country right now, or the whole world rather. Now question, do we really know what teenage pregnancy is? And what it's consequences are?

For starters, let's define teenage pregnancy. Teenage pregnancy is when a teenage woman gets pregnant at the age of 13 to 19 years old. Teenagers are impulsive and may easily give in to peer pressure and may do "it" thinking nothing would go wrong. But do they really understand what the consequences are, especially for the woman's part?

Now let us see what could go wrong during teenage pregnancy;

What Are the Consequences of Early Pregnancy?

If a pregnancy is unintended, the woman may not receive the prenatal care she and her child require, or she may not be healthy enough to take the child to term. Teens are frequently unprepared for the reality of infant motherhood. Complex relationships and financial strain, as well as managing education and motherhood, can be stressful, putting a newborn at risk. Teens who are pregnant or raising a child find it difficult to complete their education. Only 3% of teenagers who have a baby graduate from college before they turn 30. Single teen parents make up a large percentage of teen parents. Being a single parent can be financially and emotionally draining, and a stressed parent puts their child in danger.

Aside from these problems, the teen mother's and the baby's life is also at risk. Pregnant teens are prone to pregnancy-related high-blood pressure A.K.A. preeclampsia. Preeclampsia can also complicate kidney that can be fatal to both mother and baby. The baby is also at risk for premature birth and low birth weight. During pregnancy, the teen mother may also suffer from anemia which can detoriate the mother's health and hinder the baby's development. Aside from these health complications, studies also say that teenage pregnancy is also one of the causes of death of women of 15 to 19 years old.

Now that we know all of these, do we still dare to do "it" without thinking?

Having a good holidays with family? During Christmas and New Year, we really love to watch the amazing fireworks display. Sometimes, we even buy our own fireworks and fire crackers to make a display of our own. But what will we do if accidents occur? If a family member recieved burns or other injuries due to fireworks failure? If young children accidentally swallow fireworks? In case of these accidents, follow the following steps;

For burns due to fireworks failure:
1. Wash the wound in running water for 10 minutes.
2.Clean the wound using water and soap. Do not use alkaline soap like Dove or Perla.
3. Use kitchen wrap or cling wrap to cover the wound to prevent infection. Do not use sticky cloth or tape.
4.Apply pressure for 10 minutes or until the bleeding stops if there is a bleeding on the wound.
5. Bring the patient to the hospital immediately.
6. If there are decapitated parts like fingers, place them inside a container with ice and bring them to the hospital immediately. The doctors might be able to reattach them.

For firecracker ingestion (nakalunok ng paputok):
1.Feed the patient egg whites. 6 eggwhites for children and 10 eggwhites for adults. It will gelp to lessen the damage.
2. You may add juice or flavored drinks if the patient does not like the egg whites.
3. Do not force the patient to vomit. It may cause cuts on the throat.
4.Bring the patient to the hospital for proper medication. Do not give the patient oxygen, the firecrakcer might explode.

Remember, we can enjoy the company of our family if we are safe and healthy. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!!

Do's And Don'ts About Covid 19

Vaccination is the best way to prevent the spread of disease; however, there is no vaccine that can prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This means that the best way to prevent spreading COVID-19 is by avoiding exposure to the virus. That means staying home and practicing good hygiene. Wash your hands frequently, practice social distancing.

"Stay home and wash your hands” makes it sound easy, though. How can you keep yourself and your family happy and healthy during this difficult time?

Should you stay home?

- Avoid discretionary travel—don’t travel unless you have to.

- Do not visit nursing homes, retirement communities, or hospitals, unless you are providing critical assistance.

- Those at a higher risk for COVID-19 complications—older adults, people with heart disease or lung disease, people with diabetes, people with autoimmune disorders, and those with compromised immune systems

- should stay home and limit contact with others.

- Stay home as much as possible.

- Stay home if you are sick—no exceptions.

Should you avoid contact with others?

- Avoid social gatherings over 10 people, and avoid close contact with others. COVID-19 is primarily spread through person-to-person contact either by respiratory droplets in the air from coughing or sneezing, or through physical contact.

- Avoid physical contact with others. Greet people with waves or nods rather than hugs, handshakes, or kisses.

- Wash your hands often. Wash your hands properly before eating, before touching your face, and any time after touching a surface that others may have touched. A hand sanitizer that contains more than 60% alcohol can be used if soap and water are not available.

- Do not touch your face. COVID-19, as well as other viruses, typically enter the body through the eyes, nose, and mouth.

- Do stay in touch with friends and family. Talk to each other on the phone, try out a messaging application, or video chat. Reach out to people who may be feeling isolated, especially older friends and relatives who don’t use texting and social media.

Should you practice social distancing if you are healthy?

- Do not assume that having no symptoms means that you are healthy. You can be actively infected and transmit the coronavirus even if you are asymptomatic.

- Practice social distancing, respiratory hygiene, frequent hand washing, and avoid touching surfaces as though you could make others sick. Clean and disinfect surfaces often.

- Being extra careful now can limit the length of time social distancing will be necessary.

Keeping life normal

- The COVID-19 outbreak is disrupting daily life for people in Arkansas and across the globe. Teachers and students are transitioning to digital learning, professionals are adopting unfamiliar roles and working remotely, and everyone is spending more time at home and away from others.

- Take steps to promote good mental, physical, and emotional health during the COVID-19 pandemic.

- Keep a routine. Giving your day structure can help provide a sense of normalcy and make the uncertainties more manageable.

- Stay active. Physical activity and exercise are important every single day, even during a pandemic.

- Take a break from news and social media. It’s good to stay informed, but constant news about the pandemic can be overwhelming, stressful, and upsetting.

- Remember that this is a difficult time for everyone. Find extra patience, manage your stress, and cope with the anxiety that comes from a health crisis.

- Find time to relax and spend time with your family doing the things that you enjoy. Read books, play board games, tell stories, go for a walk in your neighborhood, have a dance party in the living room, or watch movies together.

- Eat healthy foods. You don’t have to rely on unhealthy frozen meals, fast food, and carry-out. Working from home and fewer social obligations in the evenings means you have more time to cook a healthy, nutritious meal.
