Pines City Colleges – College of Respiratory Therapy Advocates Lung Health with Interactive Lung Month Celebration.
The College of Respiratory Therapy at Pines City Colleges (PCC) celebrates Lung Month with the theme “Healthy Lungs, Healthy Life: No to Smoking & Va**ng; Yes to Life”. The event is a month-long celebration that emphasises the college’s steadfast commitment and advocacy against smoking and va**ng and promotes respiratory health.
In a vibrant display of advocacy, education, and community engagement, the department opened its doors on August 14,2025 to 84 PCC senior high school students for an immersive open house designed to introduce the vital role of respiratory therapists. Hands-on stations brought the respiratory therapy profession to life, with students rotating through demonstrations and hands-on experience on mechanical ventilation, electrocardiography (ECG), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), intubation, suctioning, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), aerosol therapy, and pulmonary function testing (PFT).
One of the day’s highlights was a lecture on the health repercussions associated with va**ng, its link to respiratory diseases, and its often-overlooked long-term consequences. The session also examined how both smoking and va**ng impair not only respiratory function but overall well-being, aiming to challenge common misconceptions and inspire informed choices among the youth.
The Lung Month celebration not only advocated for to***co and vape-free living but also inspired a deeper appreciation for lung health and the essential role of respiratory therapists.
