Pines City Colleges Dominates Pautakang Baga Quiz Bee at National Respiratory Therapy Educators Convention
Three students from Pines City Colleges triumphed in the Pautakang Baga Quiz Bee held during the Second National Convention of the Philippine Society of Respiratory Therapy Educators (PSRTE) last April 24–25, 2025 at The Plaza Garden Hotel and Residences, bagging 1st place in the national competition.
Among the nine participating institutions, Daniel Sarmiento, Jhenina Palgue, and Precious April Balabbo of Pines City Colleges emerged victorious with a total score of 27 points, showcasing outstanding knowledge and quick thinking in respiratory therapy concepts and clinical applications.
Far Eastern University–Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation (FEU-NRMF) and San Pedro College followed closely behind, both earning 24 points in the final round. To break the tie, a clincher round was conducted, where FEU–NRMF ultimately secured 2nd place, while San Pedro College took the 3rd place.
The quiz bee featured student teams composed of three members each from the following participating schools: Pines City Colleges, Far Eastern University–NRMF, San Pedro College, Universidad de Zamboanga, Cagayan State University, Lorma Colleges, Good Samaritan Colleges, Philippine Rehabilitation Institute College and Mary Chiles College.
Held under the theme “Innovation in Respiratory Therapy Education: Bridging Vision and Action,” the quiz bee served as one of the major highlights of the convention, which brought together educators, clinicians, and students from across the country to witness academic excellence and forward-thinking approaches in respiratory therapy education.
The Pautakang Baga Quiz Bee aimed to foster camaraderie, healthy competition, and intellectual engagement among future respiratory therapists. The winning team from Pines City Colleges was recognized during the awarding ceremony at the conclusion of the two-day event.
