🧂 Too Much Salt = Not So Sweet for Your Health

How Much Is Too Much?
Sodium is essential for our body — it helps with nerve function, muscle movement, and fluid balance. BUT like many good things, too much can be harmful.

⚠️ Dangers of Excessive Sodium Intake:
• High blood pressure (hypertension)
• Increased risk of heart disease and stroke
• Kidney strain and kidney disease
• Water retention and bloating
• Increased risk of osteoporosis over time

🚫 Most people get too much sodium from processed and packaged foods, not from the salt shaker. Things like instant noodles, fast food, chips, canned foods, sauces, and processed meats are major sources.

✅ Healthy Tips:
• Choose fresh, whole foods when possible
• Read nutrition labels
• Use herbs and spices instead of extra salt
• Rinse canned foods before using

👉 The World Health Organization recommends less than 2,000 mg of sodium per day (about 1 teaspoon of salt).

🦶 Gouty Arthritis: What You Should Know

Gouty arthritis is a painful type of arthritis caused by high uric acid levels in the blood. When uric acid builds up, it forms sharp crystals that settle in the joints—most commonly the big toe, but also ankles, knees, wrists, and fingers.

⚠️ Common Symptoms
• Sudden, severe joint pain
• Swelling and redness
• Warmth over the joint
• Pain often worse at night

🧪 Laboratory Tests for Gout
If gout is suspected, doctors may request:
✅ Serum Uric Acid – checks uric acid levels in the blood
✅ Joint Fluid Analysis – confirms uric acid crystals (gold standard)
✅ Complete Blood Count (CBC) – looks for infection or inflammation
✅ ESR / CRP – measures inflammation
✅ Kidney Function Tests (Creatinine, BUN) – important since kidneys clear uric acid
