Phases of fire operation

🔥 THE 10 PHASES OF FIRE OPERATIONS 🔥
Firefighting isn’t random — it’s a system.

Every fire incident follows a clear operational priority. These phases guide firefighters in making safe, effective, and life-saving decisions on the fireground. While some steps may happen at the same time, understanding the order helps ensure nothing critical is missed.

Here’s a simple breakdown:

1️⃣ Pre-Fire Planning
Knowing the building before a fire happens — hazards, exits, and access points — saves time and lives.

2️⃣ Size-Up (Scene Size-Up)
The Incident Commander quickly evaluates conditions: fire behavior, structure, life hazard, weather, and resources.

3️⃣ Rescue
Life safety comes first. Locate, stabilize, and remove victims from danger whenever possible.

4️⃣ Cover Exposure
Protect nearby buildings and uninvolved areas from heat, flames, and embers to stop fire spread.

5️⃣ Confinement
Keep the fire contained to a limited area to prevent it from growing bigger and more dangerous.

6️⃣ Ventilation
Remove heat, smoke, and toxic gases to improve visibility, reduce fire intensity, and support crews inside.

7️⃣ Extinguishment
Apply the right tactics and water or agents to knock down the main body of fire.

8️⃣ Salvage
Protect property from unnecessary damage and reduce overall loss after the fire is controlled.

9️⃣ Overhaul
Search for hidden fire, hot spots, and embers to prevent rekindling.

🔟 Post-Fire Analysis / Critique
Review what happened, learn from the operation, and improve future responses.

🚒 Remember:
Fireground operations are dynamic. Some phases overlap, but life safety, incident stabilization, and property conservation remain the foundation of every response.

🔥 Train with purpose. Operate with discipline. Protect lives and property.

🎄✨ Celebrate the holidays with family—keep firefighters out of the guest list. ✨🎄

This season is all about love, laughter, and togetherness.
Warm lights, shared meals, and everyone coming home safely.

In the middle of the fun, let’s pause just for a moment and remember:
FIRE DOESN’T TAKE A HOLIDAY!🔥

Turn off unused lights.
Keep an eye on the stove.
Place candles where they belong safely.

These small actions make a big difference. They protect what matters most:
our families, our homes, and our holiday memories.

Let this Christmas be filled with joy, not sirens.
With smiles, not smoke.
With stories around the table—not emergency calls.

✨ Stay safe. Stay present. Stay grateful.
Because the best holiday gift is everyone going home safe.

Merry Christmas, from your firefighters. 🎄❤️

Share this friendly reminder—someone you love may need it today.

🔥 A Full Charge Isn’t Worth a Burned Home.

We get it — you just want your phone ready for tomorrow.
But that “charge overnight” habit could cost more than your battery life.

When your phone heats up on a foam bed or pillow, the heat gets trapped — and fire can start before you even wake.

⚡ Overheating + Foam = Ignition
💤 Charging Overnight = No Chance to React
🔥 Damaged Cords = Hidden Danger

So before you turn off the lights… unplug.
Phones can recharge — lives can’t.

🔥 PILOTED IGNITION — SIMPLE BUT POWERFUL FIRE SCIENCE

When you light a piece of paper with a lighter, you’re witnessing piloted ignition — also called manual ignition.
This simple everyday action demonstrates a key principle in fire behavior.

🔥 Why This Happens

• The lighter provides an external ignition source — the flame.
• The flame heats the paper, causing pyrolysis — the process where solid fuel breaks down and releases flammable vapors.
• Once these vapors reach their ignition temperature, they ignite.

It’s not the paper immediately burning on its own — it’s the vapors created by heat that catch fire.

🔥 Every flame has science behind it — understand it to protect, prevent, and respond.

🚒🔥 FIREFIGHTER CHALLENGE FACTS

Most people think fire trucks have unlimited water…
But the real story might surprise you.

Even a fully loaded 3,000-gallon fire engine can run out in as fast as 12 minutes during active firefighting. 😮
When the flames are big, the water disappears even faster.

How Fast Fire Engine Water Runs Out

Fire nozzles release massive water flow:
• 1.5” nozzle (125 GPM): 500 gal gone in ~4 minutes
• 2.5” nozzle (250 GPM): 500 gal gone in ~2 minutes

Bigger flow = faster empty tank.

🔥 Why This Matters

• Fire engines carry limited water, not an endless supply
• Hydrants and access routes must always remain clear and ready
• Any delay means less water hitting the fire
• Faster access = faster suppression = safer communities

Your cooperation helps firefighters protect more lives and property.

NOW YOU KNOW — fire engines CAN be emptied.
They’re not overflowing like a spring! 😅

So please…
🚫 Clear the way for fire tankers
🚫 Keep hydrants unobstructed at all times

A small action from you makes a HUGE difference in an emergency.
