As we celebrate a significant milestone, the Association of Medical Social Workers of the Philippines, Inc. (AMSWPI) proudly marks its 51st Founding Anniversary with its annual convention held on May 7–9, 2025, at La Carmela de Boracay Hotel, Station 2, Balabag, White Beach Path, Boracay Island.

This year’s convention, themed “Navigating the Future: Social Work Leadership in Healthcare Innovation,” highlights our collective commitment to embracing innovation, strengthening leadership, and fostering collaboration to improve healthcare outcomes.

The Power Duo from MMMH&MC, Mr. John Lawrence Cariazo, RSW, and Ms. Angelyn U. Paje, RSW, brought pride and joy to the department as they bagged 2nd place in AMSWPI Got Talent with their extraordinary dancesport performance—an amazing journey and an unforgettable experience!

Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center Domineer in 2023 DOH Medical Social Work Compliance Report

The 2023 Consolidated Statistical Report of the Department of Health (DOH) Medical Social Work Departments, released by the DOH Health Facility Development Bureau, provides a clear picture of how DOH hospitals nationwide adhere to the Medical Social Work Department (MSWD) Standard Services outlined in the Manual for Medical Social Workers, Sixth Edition. The report evaluates hospitals based on their compliance with intervention, administrative, documentation, and research standards, as well as the caseload ratio of their Medical Social Workers.

Among the 82 DOH hospitals, the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center achieved an impressive 95% compliance score in Administration (with respect to Social Work Standards), the highest among all reporting facilities. This recognition highlights the institution’s strong governance, efficient service implementation, and commitment to upholding the principles of medical social work within hospital settings.

Beyond administrative excellence, MMMH&MC-MSWD attained a perfect 100% compliance score in documentation, demonstrating its dedication to ensuring complete, accurate, and timely records of medical social work interventions. Proper documentation is a critical aspect of patient care, ensuring continuity of services, transparency in decision-making, and alignment with healthcare policies and standards.

The DOH Consolidated Statistical Report plays a crucial role in assessing the performance of Medical Social Work Departments across the country. It sheds light on the capacity of hospitals to meet the growing demands for medical social services. A well-functioning medical social work department ensures that patients receive the necessary social interventions, psychosocial support, and financial assistance during their hospital stay.

The Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center's annual tradition of gift-giving for indigent patients once again highlighted the spirit of compassion and generosity during the holiday season. Organized by the Medical Social Work Department (MSWD) staff, the event was led by the OIC-Medical Center Chief, division and department heads, and the Year-End Committee, bringing joy and relief to patients in need.

The Department of Health-Center for Health Development Region 1 recently concluded its Psychosocial Assessment Tool Training, which brought together participants to enhance their knowledge and skills in psychosocial care. National Day of Charity 2024: Uniting for Community Wellness and Compassion

In celebration of the National Day of Charity" on October 30, 2024, as declared by
Proclamation No. 598 by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., all Department of Health (DOH)
offices and health facilities nationwide came together to engage in charitable and philanthropic
activities. This annual observance aims to foster community connections, uplift the well-being of
individuals and make a meaningful difference in the lives of both individuals and communities.

The Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center-Medical Social Work
Department also took part by hosting the last station of the special trick-or-treat event for pediatric oncology patients Staff members wore red to symbolize love and giving and to raise awareness of the day's purpose. They distributed coloring books, toys, and food to bring joy to the young warriors. Additionally, a banner was displayed to highlight the significance of the "National Day of Charity".

In another initiative, a community event was held in Marcos, Ilocos Norte, where Medical Social
Workers provided free snacks. Flyers detailing the programs and services of the hospital and the
department were distributed, serving as an important tool to inform the public of ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life for underserved sectors in society.

Through these charitable endeavors, it underscored the dedication to community service
reinforcing the importance of compassion, solidarity, and the commitment to uplift and serve
others in need.

Today, a beneficiary of the "KAARAWAN, KASIYAHAN, KALUSUGAN sa OSPITAL" (KKO program) of the Medical Social Work Department-MMMHMC celebrated his birthday, he is a true warrior. We celebrate not only his special day but also how incredible person he is. The MSWD staff gathered to surprise him with a heartwarming greetings on his birthday.
