𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡: 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐢𝐧𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐬

In observance of the World Prematurity Awareness Month, the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMH&MC) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Mother-Baby Friendly Health Institution (MBFHI) Committee held a kick-off program during the flag-raising ceremony on November 17, 2025, at the MMMH&MC Covered Court.

The event, attended by MMMH&MC employees and Out-Patient Department patients, highlighted this year’s theme: “Give Preterm Babies a Strong Start for a Brighter Future.”

Guest speaker Dr. Dawn Yap-Buscado emphasized the importance of early intervention and family-centered care, and generously donated essential baby and mother-care items for Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) families in both the wards and the NICU.

NICU nurses and neonatologists led educational sessions on KMC, breastfeeding, infection prevention, and family support.

Together, the MMMH&MC community continues to work toward a brighter, healthier future for all preterm babies.

The Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week with the theme: “Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Buhay ay Pinapahalagahan, Droga ay Inaayawan” was launched on November 20, 2025 at La Union National High School, bringing together DOH hospitals, Treatment and Rehabilitation Centers in Region I, and various stakeholders.

MMMHMC facilitated the Walk of Fame / Walk for Change, an engaging activity that involved 47 students in advocating for healthy habits and avoiding risky behaviors on drug use, smoking, and va**ng.

Adolescents remain a vital foundation of our communities. This stage of life is where awareness begins, curiosity grows, and values take root.

With our shared commitment, we continue to work towards building a drug-free Region I.

JUST IN | MMMH&MC Bags Gold Award on the International Stage

The Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMH&MC) proudly received the GOLD WINNER award in the International Hospital Federation (IHF) Awards 2025 – American College of Healthcare Executives Excellence Award for Leadership and Management for its entry, “Amplifying Hope: Leadership in Scaling Newborn Screening Success through Regional Communication” in Geneva, Switzerland, last November 12, 2025.

In 2025, there were over 700 entries from hospitals across the globe for the IHF Awards, with only 81 finalists shortlisted across eight award categories.

This prestigious award is a celebration of the people behind the work — those who lead with compassion, embrace innovation, and continuously strive to make healthcare better for everyone.

HAPPENING NOW | As part of the National Elderly Week celebration, the Geriatric Center of Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMHMC) is hosting the Elderly Filipino Fair today, November 13, at Robinsons Place Ilocos, San Nicolas.

With the theme “Embracing Age: Living a Life with Dignity and Purpose,” the event aims to promote awareness on the importance of supporting the physical, emotional, and social well-being of senior citizens while celebrating their valuable contributions to society.

Activities include a singing and dance contest, exercise session, and wellness services such as flu vaccination, free blood sugar taking, nutrition counseling, and distribution of dental kits.

A total of 163 participants are in attendance from the different municipalities of Ilocos Norte.
