Lifesaving Skills Take Center Stage: R2TMC Instructors Conduct Two Days of ACLS Training at Batanes General Hospital

Basco, Batanes – June 9 to 10, 2025—A two-day Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) training course was successfully conducted at Batanes General Hospital (BGH), bringing together a dedicated team of doctors and nurses to enhance their life-saving competencies. The intensive training was led by a team of certified instructors from Region II Trauma and Medical Center (R2TMC), further strengthening the bond between institutions in the pursuit of clinical excellence and emergency preparedness.

The R2TMC ACLS instructors were warmly received upon their arrival in Basco, with a heartfelt welcome extended by Dr. Jeffrey Antony T. Canceran, Medical Center Chief of Batanes General Hospital, and Ma’am Darcy N. Acacio-De Sagon. Their gracious hospitality, starting from the airport reception, set the tone for a collaborative and meaningful training experience.

The ACLS training, held over two days at Bunkers Bistro, focused on evidence-based algorithms and critical interventions for managing cardiac arrest, stroke, acute coronary syndromes, , and other life-threatening emergencies. Participants underwent rigorous hands-on simulation exercises, skills validation, and megacode scenarios, all designed to prepare healthcare professionals for real-world emergency situations.

The training was aligned with the latest guidelines from the American Heart Association (AHA) and emphasized the importance of early recognition, high-quality CPR, timely defibrillation, and post-cardiac arrest care.

The training was not only a professional milestone but also a reaffirmation of their commitment to delivering quality patient care even in the most challenging conditions. Batanes, known for its remote location and limited access to specialized training, greatly benefited from this opportunity to upgrade the clinical skills of its frontline healthcare providers.

The successful completion of the ACLS course marked another step forward in the ongoing efforts to ensure that even the most geographically isolated hospitals in the Philippines are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to respond effectively to cardiac emergencies.

With the spirit of bayanihan and professional solidarity, this training event not only enriched clinical skills but also fostered a deeper sense of unity and purpose among the healthcare workers of BGH and R2TMC.
