“Ma, sakit akong dalunggan…”
One night, a 5-year - old boy couldn’t sleep. He had a cold for days. Then suddenly — ear pain, low-grade fever, and nonstop crying.
Diagnosis? Otitis Media — middle ear infection.
It usually starts with sipon or ubo. When the nose gets congested, the middle ear can get blocked. Fluid builds up. Bacteria or virus grow. That’s when pain begins.
Watch out for these signs:
• Ear pain or feeling of pressure
• Fever
• Child becomes irritable
• Hearing seems reduced
• Fluid coming out of the ear
For mild cases:
✔️ Rest
✔️ Plenty of fluids
✔️ Warm compress
✔️ Paracetamol for pain/fever
But don’t ignore it.
See a doctor if the pain lasts for more than 2 days with high fever, may nana or discharge na, the child is not eating or very fussy, have hearing problems.
Ear infections are common — but early check-up prevents complications.
If you or your child has ear pain, don’t guess.
