Talk to teachers and professionals who have been working in the field for the last 15 years. You will hear concerns on kids’ mental health similar to mine. Moreover, in the past 15 years, researchers have been releasing alarming statistics on a sharp and steady increase in kids’ mental illness, which is now reaching epidemic proportions:

*1 in 5 children has mental health problems
*43% increase in ADHD
*37% increase in teen depression
*200% increase in su***de rate in kids 10-14 years old

Today's children are in a devastating emotional state! There is a silent tragedy developing right now, in our homes, and it concerns our most precious jewels.

Here are five promises from God’s Word to meditate on as you start the new year:

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (Jeremiah 29:11).
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22–23, ESV).
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9).
“being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6).

Now to the more important point. He sounds somewhat out of control, which is probably not just a function of faulty time outs but more of an overall pattern in discipline that is not working. Make sure that you are not giving him correcting statements over and over, incessant warnings, etc. Parents teach their kids to be out of control by nagging and warning, "I said don't do that,” “I told you to stop that, Johnny,” “Don't do that again,” etc. Stop correcting and start disciplining. Make sure that every behavior gets a consequence after a warning and that you are not just nagging and correcting all the time. That has zero meaning to kids, only consequences matter. Plus, it will relive you of a lot of frustration and anger and feelings of being out of control.

Effects of coffee on breastmilk:

When nursing moms consume coffee, less than one percent goes to the breastmilk. Although this is a small amount, it will peak within a few hours of consumption.

Babies of different ages will respond differently to caffeine. Nursing moms need to take their baby's age into consideration when understanding the effects of caffeine on their little one.

Moms, if your baby is less than three months old:

You need to be extra careful with caffeine consumption if your baby is below three months of age.
Remember that a newborn's metabolism cannot break down caffeine or get rid of it.
As a result, caffeine absorbed through breastmilk may get accumulated in baby's body, leading to irritability and sleeplessness.

Moms, here's all you need to know about breastfeeding and coffee. Read on to know whether it is safe to have coffee when nursing...

The original official policy of the American Academy of Pediatrics (made in 1999 and reaffirmed in 2011) states that “pediatricians should urge parents to avoid television [or other media] viewing for children under the age of two years.” Children between 2 and 5 should be limited to “no more than 1 hour per day.”

In 2016 they issued a policy adjustment stating that pediatricians should discourage any media use under the age of 18 months, except for video-chatting (as often happens with far-away relatives). Between 18 and 24 months, if a parent wants to introduce screen media, then they should choose high-quality apps and use it together with their toddlers. (Although the policy indicates that the educational benefits for children under the age of 24 months are low, and come mainly from parent interaction with the child, and not from the media itself.)

While the original policy of the AAP called for children older than 5 to be viewing no more than 2 hours of media daily, the updated 2016 recommendations explains that in today’s world, when media is everywhere, a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work. Families need to make themselves aware of the risks and benefits of media use, and create individualized plans for their children, including enough sleep and physical exercise.

Reasons given by the AAP – and other research studies – include associations with obesity, sleep issues, aggressive behaviors, less time spent in developmentally helpful interaction with parents and siblings, language delays and attention issues.

Two expert occupational therapists explain the functional and sensory processing issues they see in children exposed to screen time - and why it happens.

"But the idea of prevention is an overarching concern that should be more valued in our society," Pirics added. "We should be encouraging women to continue getting regular health visits, both for their own health and the health of their potential pregnancies in the future."
