In support of the nationwide campaign for Rabies Awareness Month, Bolinao Community Hospital joins the call to strengthen public awareness on rabies prevention and responsible pet ownership.
Rabies remains a 100% preventable yet 100% fatal viral disease once symptoms appear. It affects both animals and humans and is commonly transmitted through the bite, scratch, or saliva of an infected animals.
With the theme:

We emphasize that protecting our pets means protecting our families and communities.
๐ฉบ IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT RABIES
๐ What is Rabies?
Rabies is a viral infection that attacks the central nervous system. Once clinical signs develop, the disease is almost always fatal. Immediate medical attention after exposure is critical.
๐ How is it Transmitted?
1. Animal bites (especially dogs, cats, monkeys and pigs)
2. Scratches that break the skin
3. Saliva contact with open wounds, eyes, nose, or mouth
๐ถ๐ฑ๐ต๐ท RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP
To maintain rabies-free homes and communities, the following measures are strongly encouraged:
๐๏ธAnnual vaccination of dogs and cats against rabies
๐๏ธProper registration of pets with local authorities
๐๏ธAvoid allowing pets to roam freely
๐๏ธImmediate reporting of animal bites
๐๏ธObservation or quarantine of biting animals as advised
๐๏ธPet vaccination is not only a legal obligation but a public health responsibility.
๐จ WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF ANIMAL BITE
1. Immediately wash the wound thoroughly with soap and running water for at least 15-30 minutes.
2. Apply antiseptic solution
3. Seek medical consultation immediately at the nearest Animal Bite Treatment Center (ABTC).
4. Do not apply traditional remedies like TANDOK or SIPSIP or delay medical care.
Early post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) saves lives.
