DIABETES AWARENESS WEEK
The Bontoc General Hospital celebrated the Diabetes Awareness week through lecture on Diabetes and Offering Free CBG monitoring.

Staff of Bontoc General Hospital and clients celebrated the Diabetes Awareness week at the Outpatient Department .This is observed every fourth week of July thru the proclamation by then President Fidel V. Ramos in 1993. This annual observance aims to raise awareness about diabetes and encourage healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Pasayan of BoGH conducted Diabetes Lecture and encouraged the clients to adopt the Six pillars of Lifestyle Medicine in performing a healthy behavior to sustain a normal blood sugar and reduce the risk of developing Diabetes Mellitus and other Non Communicable Diseases.

He further added that Testing for Blood sugar should be considered in all adults 40 years old and above and consider earlier testing if with at least one other risk factors.
-History of Impaired glucose of IFG
-History of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus or delivery of a baby weighing 8 lbs or above
-Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS)
-Overweight/Obese
-Waist Circumference more than 80 in females and more than 90 in males
-First Degree relative with Type 2 diabetes
-Sedentary lifestyle
-Hypertension
-History or Diagnosis of any Vascular diseases including stroke, peripheral arterial occlussive disease, coronary artery disease
-Acanthosis nigricans
- Serum HDL less than 35 and serum Triglycerides more than 250mg/dl
