Achilles Tendinopathy

🤔"Why does my heel hurt every time I run or walk downstairs?"

You might be dealing with Achilles tendinopathy — a common overuse injury involving degeneration and/or inflammation of the Achilles tendon.

💡The Achilles tendon is the biggest and strongest tendon in the human body. The tendon has the capacity to resist large tensile forces. It stems from a distal joining of the gastrocnemius and soleus muscle and inserts at the bottom of the calcaneus.

🔍 Causes & Risk Factors:

- Sudden increase in activity (especially running/jumping)

- Poor footwear or inadequate arch support

- Tight calf muscles (Gastrocnemius–Soleus complex)

- Poor foot biomechanics (e.g., flat feet or overpronation)

- Inadequate warm-up or improper training technique

- Age-related degeneration (common in people 30–50 years)

🔥 Symptoms:

- Pain and stiffness in the back of the heel

- Worse in the morning or after prolonged rest

- Pain increases with activity (running, jumping, climbing stairs)

- Localized swelling and tenderness along the tendon

- Thickening of the tendon in chronic cases
