COLDS VS ALLERGY
Colds
Cause: Viral infection (common cold viruses like rhinovirus).
Duration: 7–10 days on average.
Symptoms: Runny nose, sore throat, cough, mild fever, body aches.
Timing: Often in cooler or transitional seasons, like winter and monsoon periods.
Mucus Color: Starts clear, may turn yellow/green.
Allergies
Cause: Immune response to allergens, often includes:
Dust mites (common in humid climates)
Pollens (particularly in spring)
Mold spores (high humidity areas)
Air pollution or smog
Duration: Can persist for weeks or months with ongoing exposure.
Symptoms: Sneezing, itchy eyes/nose, clear runny nose, nasal congestion.
Timing: Often seasonal (spring pollen) or year-round (indoor allergens and pollution).
Mucus Color: Remains clear.
Tip: Itchiness, lack of fever, and symptom persistence (especially during high-pollen or pollution seasons) are often signs of allergies rather than a cold. If symptoms worsen with air pollution, it could point to an allergy or sensitivity rather than a viral cold.
