𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐍𝐎𝐖: The Scientific Career System (SCS) Orientation and Mentoring: "Be A Career Scientist" is ongoing at Almont Beach Resort, Lipata, Surigao City, 4 March 2026.

The Scientific Career System (SCS), governed by the Scientific Career Council (SCC), co-chaired by the Civil Service Commission (CSC), and the Department of Science and Technology, is a structured program in government service that recruits, develops, and recognizes research professionals by granting scientific ranks to qualified personnel — strengthening the country’s pool of highly competent and productive scientists.

With the theme “Be a Career Scientist!”, today’s orientation and mentoring session provides a comprehensive overview of the SCS — its qualifications, evaluation process, privileges, and opportunities for advancement. It serves as a platform for participants to better understand how their research contributions can be acknowledged and elevated through an established system of merit and excellence.

Through insightful talks and mentoring conversations, participants are empowered to pursue excellence and contribute science-based solutions to society’s most pressing challenges.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: The Caraga Health Research and Development Consortium, led by the Department of Health - Center for Health Development Caraga (DOH-CHD Caraga) successfully conducted the Data-to-Policy (D2P) Training and Workshop Unit 2: Economic Evaluation of Policy on February 16–20, 2026, in Butuan City.

For five meaningful days, health professionals and academic partners from CHD, HEIs, and SUCs enhanced their competencies in economic evaluation—framing policy questions, constructing decision tree models, performing cost and cost-effectiveness analyses, and conducting sensitivity analyses. Participants also developed policy briefs integrating economic evidence to guide informed health decisions.

This initiative strengthens the connection between data, economic analysis, and policy action—supporting more efficient resource allocation and improved health outcomes in line with Universal Health Care.

Together, we move closer to evidence-informed decision-making for a healthier Caraga!

The 2026 PNHRS Research Utilization Committee (RUC) Biannual Assembly and First Business Meeting, held on February 11–13, 2026 at Seda Atria, Iloilo City, gathered national and regional members to assess the initial implementation of key research utilization and research-to-policy translation tools across regions.

The activity also aimed to consolidate feedback to refine the SOME (Structure, Organization, Monitoring and Evaluation) Assessment Tool, harmonize the roles and functions of RUCs nationwide, and align priority directions and targets for 2026.

Through collaborative discussions, alignment of KPIs, and strategic planning sessions, the committee reinforced its commitment to translating health research into policies and programs that create meaningful impact.

Together, we continue to bridge research and policy for a stronger and more responsive health system.

𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰?

𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘄 is a traditional Filipino dish made from fresh raw fish cured in vinegar or calamansi. Fresh fish used in kinilaw is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which help support brain function, promote heart health, and reduce inflammation when prepared properly.

In Mindanao, kinilaw is often prepared with 𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘯-𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘯, a native fruit traditionally used to enhance flavor and help reduce fishy odor, while also believed to have natural cleansing properties. Combined with ingredients such as onions, ginger, chili, and vinegar, tabon-tabon gives kinilaw its distinct taste and regional character.

As with all raw seafood dishes, proper handling, cleanliness, and freshness of ingredients are essential to ensure food safety.

Celebrating dishes like kinilaw highlights Caraga’s rich coastal food heritage while supporting local fisherfolk and sustainable fishing practices. 🌊

𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰?

𝗧𝘂𝘄𝗮𝘆 is a popular and affordable mud clam delicacy in Caraga. This local shellfish is a good source of protein, iron, and essential minerals that help support muscle strength, boost energy levels, and promote healthy blood circulation.

Tuway is often enjoyed fresh and dipped in s**a (vinegar), highlighting its natural briny flavor and Caraga’s food traditions. It may also be lightly cooked in soups (sinabawan) or other simple dishes. When eaten raw, proper cleaning, freshness, and safe preparation are essential.

Enjoying local Caraga delicacies like tuway not only nourishes the body but also supports local gatherers and coastal communities. 🌿
