Was in school w/ my Central Boardmates at Sanggu (Ateneo’s student council) when Ninoy Aquino was assassinated.
I had been one of the student council officers who objected to mobilizing, to meeting him at the airport, saying that he was also a trapo and had not fought beside us the past few years. I didn’t know then about his transformation in solitary confinement.
Then, one of my CB mates who had mobilized called from the airport to say “They shot him.”
I was stunned, realizing that he had been willing to risk his life and had actually given it up. He had said the Filipino was worth dying for, and he stood true to his words. The rest, as they say, is history.
And it became part of my personal history, too.
Mabuhay ang alaala ni Ninoy Aquino! Kababayan, hindi ka nag-iisa.
