The Bicol Skin Clinic successfully conducted its โ€œKilatis Kutisโ€ (Skin Check) outreach campaign in Barangay Rawis, Libon, Albay, providing vital dermatological services to residents with limited access to specialized medical care.

Before proceeding to the community, the team made a courtesy call to Dr. Danilo S. Sedutan, Medical Officer of the Rural Health Unit of Libon, to ensure full coordination with the local health system. With logistical support secured, the team traveled to Rawis to commence the scheduled health service activity.

Residents gathered early at the venue for the free consultation. The program began with an orientation about the consultation process, followed by a health education session. Mrs. Josephine Toregoza delivered a comprehensive lecture titled โ€œWhat is Leprosy?โ€, highlighting the importance of early detection and reinforcing that leprosy is a curable condition. Her discussion also aimed to address misconceptions that contribute to social stigma faced by affected individuals.

To strengthen continuity of care, Mr. Jomel R. Maralit presented the teledermatology services offered by the Bicol Skin Clinic, including available clinic hours and procedures for online consultation. This initiative ensures that residents may continue receiving dermatological attention even after the medical mission.

Mr. Jo Ed Sayson, Public Health Nurse of the Rural Health Unit of Libon, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Barangay Council of Rawis, Libon, and the dedicated health care workers for their unwavering support to the community. He also extended his gratitude to BRGHGMCโ€“Bicol Skin Clinic, commending their continued commitment and compassion in bringing quality dermatological services closer to the people. In his inspirational message, he emphasized that meaningful progress in public health is possible when local leaders, health workers, and partner institutions work hand in hand for the well-being of every family in the community.

The consultation proper then commenced, with medical personnel attending to a wide range of skin-related concerns. Many patients were first-time recipients of specialized dermatologic evaluation. Free medicines were provided to all who were assessed, ensuring immediate treatment support.

A total of ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿณ ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐˜€ were seen and managed during the outreach activity โ€” a figure that underscores both the need for and the success of the intervention.

The โ€œKilatis Kutisโ€ campaign in Rawis marks another strategic initiative of the Bicol Skin Clinic in strengthening leprosy and dermatological services across the region.

The event commenced with an opening prayer led by Ms. Ma. Jolina Taduran, Nursing Attendant, followed by warm welcome remarks from Dr. Marivic O. Bumalay-Cordero, MD, DPDS, Medical Specialist III and Head of the Bicol Skin Clinic. Her message set an encouraging and collaborative atmosphere for the dayโ€™s activities.

The program officially began with an insightful presentation from Ms. Lilian Rose Contessa Encisa, RMT, Regional Leprosy Coordinator, who discussed the current landscape of the Leprosy Program in both the Philippines and the Bicol region. This was followed by an inspiring message from Dr. Monrey Isaiah Mancilla, Medical Officer IV and PHU Head of the Department of Health โ€“ Center for Health and Development Bicol, motivating participants to continue advocating for patients affected by the disease.

An essential part of the session highlighted the psychosocial needs of leprosy patients through a lecture on Mental Health delivered by Dr. Napoleon Arevalo, MD, MPH, former Regional Director of DOH-Bicol. His valuable insights emphasized the importance of holistic and compassionate care.

Before proceeding to the election of officers, an engaging introduction activity took place where participants shared their celebrity look-alikes, helping build rapport and fostering a light-hearted and friendly environment.One of the key highlights of the event was the establishment and election of officers for the newly formed support group. During the open forum, former leprosy patients shared powerful testimonies of their journey to recoveryโ€”stories of hope, resilience, and overcoming stigmaโ€”further strengthening the collective mission of the group.

The participants later consolidated their ideas and officially adopted the name ๐—›-๐—•๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—น for their support group. They also agreed on several operational strategies and future initiatives, including:
