Walk with Lexis

Walk with Lexis Lexis is a strong and brave kid who may have lost his feet, but never his fighting spirit.

His journey isn’t easy, but he keeps going - with a smile. 🥹

Praise God for the small wins! 🤲

Despite having spent sleepless nights because Lexis kept tossing and waking up from pain and itchiness — and constantly trying to remove his dressing — we’re still grateful that we get to spend these nights in the comfort of our home, and that he remains healthy and active (and bugoy 🤣). What’s more, he can now kneel without feeling pain. 🥹

Blessed Sunday, indeed. 🙏

Lexis is Discharged! 🥹

Lexis is doing well overall except when he has to move around, like when he needs to p*e, change position, or just wants to move freely. His wounds are still a bit sensitive and bleeding, so the bandages really can’t be removed or touched often.

He wants to stretch, kneel, and move around like before. I keep explaining to him why he can’t do those things yet, why it still hurts, and why he needs to wait a little longer to heal. The biggest challenge is always bedtime — he cries a lot because he can’t find a comfortable position or insists on stretching his legs and removing the bandages because they’re itchy, which causes pain and bleeding. More often that not, we have to rewrap his bandages every time because he keeps taking them off. It takes a long time, a lot of reassurances, and soothing, before he finally falls asleep. 😴

During the day though, it’s not much of a problem since he gets distracted by YouTube or Roblox. 😅 He still complains about the pain, but not as stressful as when we’re about to sleep.

His follow-up check is scheduled at the end of the month. We’re praying that even before then, he’ll be totally healed and back to his energetic, happy self. 💪❤️

Thank you, everyone, for your prayers, and may God bless us all. 🙏

Day 10

This Sunday, we give back all the glory and praise to God for Lexis’ triumph over his surgery. We are truly blessed and grateful that despite everything, we are safe — and Lexis is slowly healing, with a smile on his face. 😊

We’re still in the hospital as Lexis continues his antibiotics and pain relievers, but day by day, he’s getting better. Fewer tears today, and more of that cheerful and goofy Lexis we love. 🥰

We can’t wait to finally go home soon. 🙏
Blessed Sunday to all! 🌤️

Day 9

Just felt the second aftershock from the earthquake — and it never gets any less scary. Thank you so much to everyone who reached out and checked on us. We’re safe, but please continue to keep us all in your prayers. 🙏

On a brighter note, we’re happy to share that Lexis’ wounds and revised stump are healing beautifully. His catheter has also been removed. Sadly, Lexis still often cries because of the pain, and wishes, with swollen eyes, that his legs were healed already. 🥺

If everything goes well, we might finally be discharged tomorrow. His aftercare and dressing changes can already be done at home. 🏠

Grateful to God for every small progress. 🥹 Please continue to pray for Lexis’ fast recovery and good health. Thank you, everyone. 🥰

Day 7

The dawn before surgery, things started to get really difficult for Lexis. He was finally put on dextrose, but it took a long time because his veins were too thin. Thankfully, they were able to insert two lines — one for fluids and one for blood.

The surgery took around 5 long hours, followed by another 4 hours in the recovery room. This has truly been the hardest part so far. Lexis keeps saying, “I feel pain,” and sometimes he can’t help but cry from it. Hearing his cries of pain, his wishes of being healed already, his request to remove the bandages on his legs and let him wear his pajamas again, break our hearts.

Despite everything, my sweet sweet boy still tries to give us a smile even with swollen eyes, even when he’s clearly hurting. He doesn’t have much of an appetite yet. We try to distract him from the pain by letting him watch videos, yet even that doesn’t always work. His only comfort right now is Mommy’s hug — the one thing that seems to ease his pain, even just a little.

Please continue to pray for Lexis’ fast and smooth recovery. 🙏

Day 5

Lexis is finally set for surgery tomorrow! 🥹 We humbly ask for your prayers for everything to go smoothly - the wisdom of doctors, the readiness of the hospital, equipment, procedure, and most especially, for Lexis’ health. May the surgery be successful and his recovery quick and comfortable. 🙏

We are so thankful to the doctors who came and explained everything — from the pediatrician’s evaluation, to the anesthesiologist’s preparation, to the orthopedic surgeon’s detailed approach. The plan is to get a bone from the side of his leg (below the knee) to create a stump that can help stop or minimize the overgrowth. It won’t totally stop it, but they hope it can lessen the number of revision surgeries he’ll need as he grows — maybe every 5 years instead of every 3. (See last photo for reference, unless squeamish 🫣)

Lexis was also anointed by Father Mark today 🤲 and we continue to hold on tightly to our faith during this challenging time. ❤️

Thank you so much to everyone who has been helping and praying for our little warrior. 🙇‍♀️

Day 2

Lexis slept well last night even without aircon in the ward, thanks to his little fan and the cool breeze from the open windows. 🌬️

This morning, a doctor came to check on him, took some photos, and shared that they’ll be planning how to minimize the number of surgeries as Lexis continues to grow. Hopefully, the surgery can push through next week, though nothing’s certain yet. We’re praying it can happen soon so he can return to the comfort of home asap. 🙏

We continue to pray that the universe will align so that the time we need to spend here will be just what’s necessary—no more, no less. God’s will above all. 💫

Thank you so much for all your prayers, support (in whatever form) and kind words in the comments. Lexis reads them too, and every time we go through your messages together, he goes “aaawww.” 🤣💖 Always grateful to God that despite everything, Lexis remains his usual bubbly and active self, spreading smiles to everyone around. 🥰

UPDATE

After 3 years and a month since the tragedy, we’re back in the hospital for Lexis’ surgery on his overgrowth. As he continues to grow, it’s important to address this condition to prevent infections and to help him comfortably use his prosthetics.

After a long day of waiting, we were finally admitted to the Ortho Ward. When the medtech came to take his blood, Lexis showed so much bravery—kudos as well to the medtech for being gentle and kind, and to all those who have been instrumental to Lexis’ admission. Before sleeping, Lexis said he wanted to go home, so I explained to him that we needed to stay in the hospital a little longer, and that after the surgery, once he feels better, we can finally go home to Kuya Ryzen. 🥹

We humbly ask for your prayers for Lexis as he undergoes this journey once again. 🙏
