Beyond Dreams

In 1958, the late Archbishop James Thomas Gibbons Hayes, SJ,DD, had a dream โ€“ a health project in Cagayan de Oro, his Diocese for the poor. He invited the SPC Sisters to help actualize his dream of building a hospital in Mindanao to attend to the physical well-being of the people. The first four Sisters arrived in Cagayan de Oro in 1957.

This legacy of the late archbishop of compassionate service for the sick, poor, and the needy has transcended over the years. From a small clinic then Maria Reyna Hospital has expanded to what is now Maria Reyna-Xavier University Hospital (MRXUH). The institutionโ€™s humble beginnings is still eminent as it puts patients welfare at the heart of the development of its facilities and services.
