Sleep, or the lack of it, directly impacts the health of our kidneys. How? Over a 24-hour period, the kidney function is regulated according to the sleep-wake cycle. To maintain healthy kidneys, adequate and regular sleep patterns is a must.

Always consult your doctor should you suspect your sleeping pattern may unfavorably impact your kidneys.

We know the feeling. Your brain is currently 90% electrolyte gradients, 8% dialysis membranes, and 2% wondering where you left your coffee.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿: You handle the anion gap like a superhero and interpret urine sediments in your sleep. This exam is just another day in the life of a future nephrology expert.

So in these final days, do a little review, but also:

✅ Hydrate (with something other than coffee, maybe).
✅ Get some sleep (your glomeruli need rest, too).
✅ Believe in yourself (we certainly do!).

A profound thank you to our incredible guest speaker, 𝘿𝙧. 𝙇𝙖𝙜𝙪𝙢𝙗𝙖𝙮 from the Department of Family Medicine, for leading a powerful session on the vital role of family dynamics in a patient's journey from pediatric to adult care.

Her expertise perfectly complemented our clinic's mission, as we explored how the family unit is fundamental to empowering young adults and ensuring a seamless transition in their kidney care journey. The Section of Nephrology, Northern Mindanao Medical Center, continues to uphold its vision of advancing kidney care and nurturing the next generation of nephrologists in Northern Mindanao and beyond.

🩺 A Brief History of Growth and Excellence:
• 2020: Establishment of the Renal Care and Transplant Unit (RCTU)
• 2022: Institutionalization of the Section of Nephrology
• 2023: Establishment of the Adult Nephrology Fellowship Training Program
• October 2023: Granted Recognized Status by the Philippine Society of Nephrology (PSN)
• May 2024: Launch of the Pioneer Batch of Fellows
• September 2024: Upgraded to Provisional II Status of PSN
• July 2025: Elevated to Provisional I Status of PSN

Now on its third recruitment cycle, the Section invites qualified internists to join its Fellowship in Adult Nephrology (Batch 2026 – 2028) — a PSN-accredited training program offering comprehensive exposure in clinical nephrology, dialysis, kidney transplantation, and research, including rotation at NKTI.
