NEONATAL PNEUMONIA Testimony
CTTO:
Nagising ako sa iyak ng anak ko… at hirap na hirap na siyang huminga.
My son had neonatal pneumonia when he was born. Right after my CS delivery, he had to stay in the NICU for 8 days, receiving IV antibiotics and oxygen support just to help him breathe.
As he grew older, napansin ko na madali siyang magkaroon ng ubo, and sometimes it would get worse. Eventually, he was considered a high-risk asthmatic.
Back in August 2019, one night I suddenly woke up because my youngest child was crying. When I checked him, he was gasping for air. I immediately gave him his prescribed medication and used the nebulizer—even increasing the dose—but he was still struggling to breathe.
Then I noticed something that terrified me… his color started to change.
I rushed him to the nearest hospital where he was confined for 5 days and needed oxygen support for 3 days just to stabilize his breathing.
After that incident, almost every month he would have asthma attacks. In December 2019, I brought him to a pediatric pulmonologist. He was prescribed steroids for 3 months, and thankfully from January to March 2020, he didn’t have any attacks.
Because of the lockdown, we weren’t able to return for follow-ups. For a while, everything seemed okay.
But in January 2021, his asthma returned—and this time it was serious again. I saw the same frightening scenario:
he was struggling to breathe and his color was changing again.
He was given steroids and nebulizer treatments again, but after four days, there was still no improvement. I was scared. It was also very difficult to go to the hospital at that time because of the risk of COVID exposure.
At that time, I didn’t even have money, so I borrowed one bottle of Intra. I started giving him 2 jiggers, 3 times a day.
And though it may sound unbelievable, after just two days, his breathing became easier and the wheezing was gone.
Even after he improved, I made sure he finished the whole bottle.
Since then, I’ve decided to make Intra part of my children’s routine. We are very thankful because it helped us avoid another hospital confinement.
Thank you to Intra and also to my mentor GMD Ramz for the guidance and support.
