ICT: A Key to Raise Awareness

Technology plays a big and important role to this present situation on the society. A society where different problems and circumstances occur. At this present time, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a very much exemption to solve and raise awareness to these problems. Through experience and exploring about this subject, I can say that ICT indeed contributes the world to be a better place— a place where continuous progress happens specially into the field of communication and technology.

According to research, ICT refers to technologies that provide access to information through telecommunications. This includes the Internet, wireless networks, cell phones, and other communication mediums. As a member of the youth, I conclude that majority of us use smartphones and other form of gadgets to be updated and to seek information about recent happenings to the society. A study shows the increase use of internet search data up to 36% in responses to the Covid-19 pandemic, which proves that ICT is a significant tool for global awareness.

Considering the fact that ICT creates great awareness about global issues such as pandemic, it also basically improves our daily life. Through the rapid growth of technology, most of the poeple nowadays are exposed to gadgets. Looking for the good side and the advantage of these, they make our life easier that we can communicate with our loved ones faster and more convenient. We can simply access the internet and do anything we want with its high capability.

With these being said, I suggest to my fellow youth and to the netizens that we must not take advantage its capability. Instead, we must equip ourselves with discipline in using the internet because no one wants to be taken advantage, and so is the born invention — Technology.

ICT: A Great Platform to Impact People

Technology has changed our lives for the better. It has become essential for people bring changes in their methodologies in accordance with the technological advancement. ICT stands for Information and Communication Technology. It is really a changing power in the 21st century. Integration of ICT has enhanced the development speed in the entire education system.

The subject Empowerment Technologies has made a difference on my view to ICT. I always thought its purpose is to only give entertainment, provide global access to data, and communications. We all know that Social Media is a product of ICT and with this, media enable us to communicate and stay up to date with family and friends around the world, find new friends and communities, connect with other people who share similar interests or ambitions, and raise awareness on important issues as you.

Nowadays, ICT is mostly used as a mode of communication. Applications like Twitter, Facebook, and the like help people communicate faster and efficiently. With the help of these apps, we can also impact people by simply changing their mindsets and views on a particular topic through an influential post. By this, I realized that ICT can also be used to influence and make an impact to other people.

I highly recommend that we should use different ICT applications site with caution. Whenever we use different social media apps, we should be careful on who we talk to. We should avoid posting and putting our personal information in different websites and social media apps. This is to avoid crime from happening.

ICT: A Medium for Learning

ICT is an essential and a widespread means to perform any meaningful task in modifying and modernizing present educational systems and the mode of learning. Not just in education, it is a valuable part of several aspects of our daily living. It is basically a technology that helps to obtain access to information. This technology includes products that will restore, store, receive or operate, information in a digitalized format. This technology aims on communication aspect that includes wireless network, internet, other different forms of communication systems. There are several examples of Information and Communication Technology. A few of them are computing industry, electronic display and telecommunications.

When talking about education, the objective of ICT is to acclimatize teachers and students with the right use of computers, with respect to its working, and ethical and social issues. It is also believed that ICT empowers teachers as well as learners. It not just transforms the mode of teaching, but the entire learning process too. This transformation results in maximizing learning gains that help learners to boost their creativity, communication and analytical skills.

Though ICT is highly useful for the entire society, it is seen to be more advantageous for college students. A learning experience rich in ICT helps students to develop their skills. With the necessary hardware and software provided to students, they can access all the needed information from ICT. In this way, implementation of ICT makes an educational institution smarter and progressive. Compared to earlier period, schools, and colleges, students can carry out research quickly and finish off their assignments and projects much before the stipulated timeframe with the availability of computers. This saves them a lot of time, and increases their knowledge in using the machines. With ICT, there's a wide use of machines and methods to acquire information. Information and Communication Technology offers a wide range of effective lessons and information. Use of word processing aids students to perform their assignments easily. It makes their projects and assignments presentable, clean and organized.

Finally, this technology provides them access to abundance of information in a matter of seconds. It is found to be one of the best ways to improve their grammar and vocabulary skills. When learning in groups using ICT, students get benefits by collaborative learning. ICT supports local requirements for the learners and tgat implies that social information can easily be found. ICT infuses interest in students and make them participate more in the process of learning. Integration of information and communication technology in classrooms equips students with the ability to learn effectively, collaborate, and explore the entire world around them. Anywhere and anytime access to extensive web-based tools encourages their learning not just within the classroom but beyond it too.

ICT: A Changemaker

“The great growling of change – technology,” it’s a quote from Alvin Toffler that depicts how technology will improve and continue to change as time passes by. Empowerment Technology or E-Tech often deals with the use of different technologies such as mobile phones, telephone, computer and other devices to locate, save, communicate and to inform. Senior students like me see this subject as a helpful guide to improve our skills and also, to change how we view ICT. The way I view ICT before is just about computers, new gadgets, electronics etc., but as we dig deeper ICT can make our life easier. Communication is now faster compared before. Now, we can also reach people who are miles away from us and with the use of ICT, we can bring change and progress.

ICT permeates all aspects of life, providing quicker ways for people to interact and to gain or access information. Thus, people can use it for learning and teaching purposes. Students can gain data and information in just one click and it saves time, money and effort. ICT can also be a tool to achieve goals, you can promote your business by making a page or make creative things like digital art and share you talent in different platforms of social media. Today that people are in quarantine and some of us cannot go out, the time that we use gadgets and social media increased. I’ve seen some of my Facebook friends starting their business and promoting it on social media, some of them do live streaming and they create their vlogs to share their passion and everyday lifestyle to their viewers. ICT is so broad and people use it to share new things, influence, educate and inspire other people.

The internet became widely available in the Philippines in 1994, which led to a slowly developing internet savvy consumers in the country. As of January 2020, the number of internet users in the Philippines grew to 73 million people, accounting for more than half of the total population. The digital population mostly belong to the age group of 16 years old and above. As a 16 year old student I recommend that people should use ICT on the right way and follow the proper etiquettes. I hope teenagers would continue to enjoy browsing the internet safely. The internet is a wide web that consists of different people so be responsible on what we post online. The internet gave us access to everything; but it also gave everything access to us.

ICT: A Tool to Kill the System

“We’ve changed so much,” a phrase that’s factual. We’ve come from the times of hardest of the hard. As time continuously evolves, earthlings have made an alternative that soon became the norm – technology.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) saved us from a lot of exhausting works and made our works easier. Undeniably, it made us more productive. Through all the readings and experiences, my view on ICT has changed and I realized that it’s more than just a technology. It is a platform for change, for social equality and for social justice. According to Martha Jean Sanchez, the number of internet users in the Philippines grew to 73 million people, accounting for more than half of the total population as of January 2020. With this being said, this just attests that the majority of Filipinos are now going digital. Through this advancement made by mankind, we have achieved many things. Whenever I go online, it’s inevitable to see pages that talk a lot of concerning issues, for example the FB pages of Anakbayan and UP. Issues that have been muting the voiceless. An example of issue that is seen most of the progressive groups or pages is the police brutality in the Philippines. As a very vocal and politically inclined person, it makes me so happy to see many ICT applications being utilized for greater good and it makes me more eager to write and speak up. I’ve been writing essays and other literary pieces about the stories of the marginalized and the oppressed. Finally, I support the online sites and FB pages that are constantly fighting and progressing for social justice and equality.

Almost all of us are considered netizens, and we all have responsibility with what we share in the internet. We have a platform, and I recommend you use it to be progressive and woke. Don’t be scared because according to the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines, Article 3, Section 4, no law shall be passed abridging the freedom of speech, of expression, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and petition the government for redress of grievances. A long way it is, but know that our combined cries and voices equate to our triumph. Silence is a privilege, let’s use our voice, even when trembling, to dismantle the unjust system.
