When rainy season begins, flu spreads faster while people stay indoors, share limited air space, and the virus survives longer in humid conditions. 🦠

That’s why vaccination during this season matters.💉

CEBU & VISAYAS FLOOD ADVISORY: PROTECT YOURSELF FROM LEPTOSPIROSIS 🌧

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the recent floods. 💚 Please stay vigilant! Leptospirosis can spread through floodwater contaminated with rat urine and can cause serious illness involving the liver, kidneys, or lungs.

🚫 Prevention is better than cure:
A – Avoid wading in floodwaters if possible.
B – Wear boots and gloves during cleanup.
C – Clean your home and surroundings.
P – Keep your area pest-free.
D – Consult your doctor immediately if you had contact with floodwater.

💊 If you already waded in floodwater, see a healthcare provider first before taking any medication.

Doxycycline may be prescribed for prevention depending on risk level, but it is NOT safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women and children under 8 years old.

🚨 Watch for these signs within 2–4 weeks:
• Fever, chills, or muscle pain
• Yellowing of eyes or skin
• Dark or decreased urine

If you notice these, seek medical help immediately.

Together, we can stay safe and strong, Cebu and Visayas. 🙏

⚠️ POST-FLOOD HEALTH ALERT: PROTECT YOUR FAMILY FROM LEPTOSPIROSIS ⚠️

Cebu is still reeling from Typhoon Tino, and our thoughts are with every family affected by the floods. Please stay safe, floodwaters may carry the Leptospira bacteria that cause leptospirosis. Even a small wound can let infection in.

💊 If you had to wade through floodwaters:
Ask your doctor about doxycycline prophylaxis, a preventive antibiotic sometimes given to people with high-risk exposure (e.g., rescue, cleanup, or daily flooding contact).

🚫 But prevention is still best:
Avoid wading in floodwater whenever possible
Cover all wounds and wear boots or protective gear
Wash thoroughly with soap and clean water after exposure

⛑️ If you develop fever, chills, red eyes, or body pain, seek medical care immediately.
Let’s keep Cebu safe… protect yourself, your loved ones, and your community.

✨On Day 1, we step into a space where medicine meets morality — where science is not just about discovery, but about who gets to benefit from it. We reflect on the ethical imperative of justice and access in infectious disease treatments, and look ahead to the defining stories that shape 2025.

These are not just lectures. They are mirrors and compasses — reminding us that the practice of medicine is both a duty and a dialogue with humanity.
