Change your mindset and magnify the power of affirmations with essential oils!
Affirmations are more than just self-help statements to make ourselves feel better. They are designed to positively alter our beliefs and can have a significant impact on our overall quality of life. Self-affirmations are positive statements you tell yourself with confidence to boost feelings of emotional support and encouragement in order to spark self-change. Practicing affirmations regularly may help you become more in tune with your thoughts and the way you think about yourself in general. When you are conscious of the things you tell yourself, you can make an effort to eliminate self-limiting beliefs and are able to be mindful of surrounding yourself with positive things.
Smell is the only sense connected to the limbic lobe of the brain, which is the emotional control center that plays a role in mood and memory and is strongly linked to behavioral patterning. The aroma of essential oils can work synergistically with your daily affirmations. We think they’re a match made in heaven!
Here are a few simple ways you can add essential oils to your affirmation routine to get the most out of it, along with a few of our favorite oils to pair together.
1. Written affirmations: One of the secrets to an effective affirmation practice is to optimize your mind’s uptake of the idea through repetition. Some experts recommend spending five minutes at a time, three times a day repeating affirmations. One way to get your midday affirmations in (without hiding in a closet or disturbing those around you) is to write them down. Pick the affirmation you would like to focus on, diffuse your essential oil of choice, and while enjoying the aroma, write your affirmation as many times as you can in five minutes while saying it to yourself.
2. Morning affirmations: Saying affirmations aloud is a wonderful way to start your day. This is a great practice while brushing your teeth, styling your hair, or putting on your makeup, because it combines the added energetic power of speaking your affirmation to yourself in front of a mirror. Start by applying essential oils to your wrists for the topical and aromatic benefits. Combine this with making direct eye contact in the mirror as you state your affirmations with confidence and certainty.
3. Drive time: During a commute is another great time to practice affirmations aloud or in your mind. Use essential oils with a Car Vent, USB, or Orb diffuser, or if you don’t have an on-the-go diffuser, try applying a drop of oil behind each ear and on the back of your neck before your drive.
4. Affirmations can help you maintain your cool in tense situations; and just like with oils, there are very few wrong ways to use them. The next time you find yourself in a stressful situation, try giving yourself a positive pep talk while massaging the back of your neck and shoulders. Apply a few drops of oil to your palms first and breathe deeply. Even doing this for 30 seconds is long enough to effect positive change!
5. Having a hard time connecting to the truth of your affirmation emotionally? Pick a supportive oil and say your affirmation aloud. Pay attention to the place in your body that feels tense or unaccepting of your affirmation. Apply oil to that area (or inhale the oil while resting your hand on the area), visualize acceptance, and release the tension held in that area. State your affirmation again and repeat this process until you sense a greater acceptance of your affirmation.
