I am a Doctor and a Surgeon โ why do I need to be on social media making reels? A good friend and fellow surgeon asked me this recently.
Hereโs what I told him:
โSkill alone wonโt get you noticed; visibility will.โ
Traditional wisdom says:
โYou are a surgeon. Let your outcomes speak for themselves.โ
Reality says: โShow how youโre advancing the field.โ
Traditional wisdom says:
โMaster your craft and opportunities will come.โ
Reality says: โMake your expertise impossible to ignore.โ
Traditional wisdom says:
โStay in the OR.โ
Reality says: โStep onto the stage, into leadership, and beyond.โ
Want proof?
โข The top surgeons donโt just operate โ they publish, speak, and teach.
โข Innovations donโt revolutionize surgery unless theyโre shared.
โข Leadership roles rarely go to just the most skilled โ they go to those who are most recognized.
โข Patients donโt just seek the best โ they seek the most visible experts.
In todayโs world, visibility is not vanity โ itโs impact.
Whether itโs through thought leadership, education, or sharing outcomes, your voice needs to be heard outside the OR.
(Not my words originally โ but too good not to share.)
