In light of the recent series of earthquakes and other emergencies affecting various parts of the country, the need for thorough preparedness and timely provision of basic health and emergency commodities has become more urgent than ever. One of the immediate aftermaths of disasters is the disruption of lifelines such as electricity, water, and communication.

To address this, the Ministry of Healthโ€“BARMM through the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Health/Health Emergency Management Staff (HEMS), continues to strengthen its readiness measures by prepositioning essential emergency health commodities across the region.
From October 16โ€“18, 2025, the HEMS team deployed emergency health supplies to Marawi City and Lanao del Sur (LDS), followed by Maguindanao from October 23โ€“24, and the Special Geographic Area (SGA) from October 27โ€“28, 2025. These efforts form part of a regional strategy to ensure that critical health resources are accessible when and where they are needed most.

As part of the initiative, the Cotabato City Health Office (CHO) also received jerry cans for clean water storage, hygiene kits to support sanitation during emergencies, and Starlink satellite internet equipment early on to strengthen communication and data transmission capabilities during disaster response operations.

Prepositioning entails the strategic placement of essential commodities and equipment including medicines, medical kits, and emergency logistics suppliesโ€”closer to disaster-prone areas. Recognizing that power outages and mobility challenges often hinder response efforts, the Ministry has also provided portable generators with solar panels, solar power banks, life vests, emergency helmets with headlights, UV-protection umbrellas, and safety boots, particularly for flood-prone areas such as the SGA. These resources not only enable health facilities to maintain essential services but also enhance the safety and efficiency of responders in the field.

More than just logistics, this initiative represents a lifesaving investment in resilience. By anticipating needs and equipping them with the necessary tools, the Ministry of Health through HEMS is fortifying the regionโ€™s capacity to respond, recover, and sustain health services amid disasters.
Ultimately, the prepositioning of emergency health commodities is not merely a preparedness measure, it is a vital component of an effective, responsive, and resilient health system that ensures timely and life-saving assistance for every Bangsamoro community.

COTABATO CITY (October 27, 2025) โ€“ The Ministry of Health (MOH) in the Bangsamoro Region helped transport relief goods for communities affected by the 7.4 magnitude earthquake and its aftershocks in Manay, Davao Oriental. During its kick-off ceremony at the Bangsamoro Government Center on October 24, BARMM Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua, who led the ceremony, stated, โ€œWhen it comes to help, there are no boundaries.โ€

The assistance came from the Bangsamoro Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence (READi), the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), Tulong Alay sa Bangsamorong Nangangailangan (TABANG), OCD-BAR, and MOH. They provided 5,000 sacks of rice, 500 kitchen kits, and 500 hygiene kits, which were transported in five trucks as part of the Bangsamoro response.

โ€œIndeed, service does not recognize tribes, race, skin color, economic status, politics, or religion. It does not respect territorial boundaries. Whenever there is a need, everything is set aside except genuine concern and readiness to serve humanity. Alhamdulillah,โ€ said Health Minister and Member of Parliament Dr. Kadil M. Sinolinding, Jr.

Earlier, on October 14, MOH-BARMM sent nutrition support and assessed the needs of earthquake victims in Manay. This was done in coordination with DOH-Davao region, DSWD Region XI, and local health offices.

And on October 15, the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental recognized the support from the BARMM Ministry of Health. "Today, we are stronger with the arrival of our dedicated partners. Teams from the Davao Center for Health Development and the BARMM Ministry of Health have arrived, bringing essential supplies and additional health personnel to support our local teams."

COTABATO CITY-- The Ministry of Health โ€“ BARMM, joined the Department of Science and Technology โ€“ Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) in the Regional Dissemination Forum on the 2023 National Nutrition Survey (NNS) held on October 23, 2025, at the Alnor Hotel and Convention Center, Cotabato City. The forum carried the theme โ€œHalfway Point to 2030: Key Findings of the 2023 National Nutrition Survey at the BARMM Region.โ€

The activity aimed to present the latest regional findings from the 2023 NNS to guide local policymakers, development partners, and nutrition stakeholders in evidence-based planning and program development. The survey revealed that 48.2% of households in BARMM experience moderate to severe food insecurity, higher than the national average of 31.4%. It also showed that 34.3% of children under five are stunted, 22.6% are underweight, and 6.9% are wasted, underscoring the urgent need for sustained multi-sectoral interventions. On a positive note, data reveals 55.5% of infants below six months are exclusively breastfed, 69% of children were breastfed within one hour after birth, and 57.4% continued breastfeeding up to one year โ€”a testament to BARMMโ€™s strengthened advocacy for Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices and maternal health programs.

Meanwhile, only 28.9% of children continued breastfeeding up to two years, and 5.8% met the Minimum Dietary Diversity (MDD) requirement. Furthermore, 9 in 10 (90.3%) met the Minimum Meal Frequency (MMF), while only 5.5% achieved the Minimum Acceptable Diet (MAD), highlighting the need to improve complementary feeding practices across the region.

Distinguished guests and representatives from various agencies, including the MOST, MSSD, MIPA, MTIT, PSA, MOSEP, Provincial and City Nutrition Action Officers (PNAOs and CNAOs), and other partner institutions, joined the activity to engage in meaningful discussions and collaborative planning sessions. Development partners from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and United Nations Childrenโ€™s Fund (UNICEF) also participated, reaffirming their support to improve nutrition and food security outcomes in the region.

The Inspirational Message was delivered by Dr. Zul Qarneyn M. Abas, Deputy Minister of Health โ€“ BARMM, who emphasized the value of accurate and timely data in designing targeted nutrition programs and policies. He highlighted that the fight against malnutrition requires strong collaboration between ministries, local governments, and international partners.

The event concluded with Closing Remarks from Ms. Celia C. Sagaral, RND, MPH, Chief of the Nutrition Division of MOH-BARMM, who expressed gratitude to DOST-FNRI and all partner agencies for their continued partnership. She reiterated the Ministryโ€™s commitment to using the NNS data as a foundation for developing responsive and inclusive nutrition interventions toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
