The Office on Health Services – Family Planning Program conducted a Family Planning Competency-Based Training Level 1 (FPCBT 1) on April 26-29, 2022.

The said training is part of the current integrated family planning performance-based training system of the Department of Health that aims to develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of participants on the requirements of quality FP service provision. It implements a basic approach that exposes participants to levels of training based on certain criteria which qualify them to the next higher level of training.

The overall objective of the FPCBT 1 is to enable health service providers to safely administer and dispense FP services and share accurate information on the different modern FP methods with clients. FPCBT 1 contains up-to-date FP information drawn from evidence-based medical information and effective FP practices recommended by global references, particularly the Medical Eligibility Criteria (MEC) for Contraceptive Use of the World Health Organization and the FP Global Handbook for Service Providers.
This training will increase availability and accessibility of Family Planning service providers for modern FP methods except long acting and permanent methods. Also, this activity will be an avenue for trained FPCBT 1 trainers region-wide to harness their training skills and exchange best practices on family planning in each locality.

Highlights of activities:
(1) Proper hand washing technique demonstration
(2) Group presentation and report on family planning method
(3) Role play on counseling
(4) Demonstration on proper use of condom
(5) Structural activities on Phases of menstrual cycle, male reproductive system, disease transmission cycle
(6) Comprehensive assessment of trainees

The City Government of Cotabato headed by Hon. Atty. Frances Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi conducted a Family Planning Competency Based Training Level 1 among Health Service Providers both Nurses and Midwives of Cotabato City on March 22, 23, 25 and 26, 2021.

It enable health service providers to safely administer and dispense FP services and share accurate information on the different modern FP methods with clients and it aims to develop Knowledge, Attitude and Skills (KAS) of health service providers in providing Family Planning Services in the context of MNCHN.

The aforementioned activity is spearheaded by Office on Health Services headed by Meyasser T. Patadon, MD.,
