COMMUNITY TRIP AT SM CITY DAET 👏

Community Integration 🌟
This activity is helping the child feel comfortable and able to join in normal activities within society, like going to the mall.

Our goals focus on building tolerance, coping skills, and independence. 👫

Sensory Regulation Goals 💪

✅ Reduce Sensory Overload: To gradually tolerate loud noises (announcements, music), bright lights, and crowds for increasing periods of time without becoming overwhelmed or distressed.

✅ Maintain Calm State: To remain regulated and calm in busy environments, recognizing early signs of stress and stopping activities if feeling overwhelmed.

Communication & Social Goals 💪

✅ Express Needs Clearly: To use words, gestures, or a communication device to ask for breaks, indicate discomfort, or request specific items/areas.

✅ Follow Simple Directions: To follow basic safety instructions and stay close to companions while walking through the mall.

✅ Wait Patiently: To practice waiting in lines or for turns with minimal support, using coping strategies if feeling impatient.

✅ Successful Transition: To transition smoothly between different areas of the mall or when leaving the premises without significant distress.

Community Skills Goals 💪

✅ Navigate the Environment: To become familiar with the layout and understand that different areas have different levels of noise and activity.

✅ Enjoy the Experience: To participate in family outings and potentially enjoy specific activities (like food, window shopping, or play areas) in a safe and supported way.

"Another successful out trip! We're so proud of how well they coped and enjoyed! 💚

ST. JUDE THERAPY CENTER PLAY GROUP SESSIONS ✨

Playgroups offer significant benefits for children by providing a structured, supportive environment to develop social, communication, and emotional skills. Through interactive play, children practice turn-taking, sharing, and peer interaction, which improves social confidence and reduces anxiety in group settings. These groups foster essential developmental gains in a fun, engaging, and predictable way. 😇

Benefits of playgroups for Children include:

✅ Social Interaction & Communication: Children learn to communicate verbally and nonverbally, pick up on social cues, and build relationships with peers in a natural, low-pressure setting.

✅ Emotional Regulation & Confidence: Structured activities help children manage frustration and emotions, boosting self-esteem as they master new skills and interact successfully.

✅ Generalization of Skills: Skills learned, such as sharing or following instructions, can be practiced and applied to other environments like classrooms and community settings.

✅ Improved Cognitive & Motor Skills: Activities such as puzzles, building, and sensory play strengthen problem-solving, cognitive abilities, and motor skills.

✅ Safe Environment for Exploration: Supported playgroups offer a predictable space for children to engage in both child-led and therapist-guided play based on their interests.

✅ Support for Families: Playgroups offer a supportive environment where parents can share experiences and learn alongside their children.

"Play is our brain's favorite way of learning". 🪇🎨

Sensory Integration – Addressing Sensory Issue in Razon using Shaping

In ABA Therapy, a Sensory Integration Activity is a structural activity designed to help a child process, tolerate, and respond appropriately to sensory input (such as sound, touch, movement, or light) by teaching adaptive behaviors and reducing sensory-related distress.
Sensory issues in razon usually refer to a child’s difficulty tolerating the sound, vibration, or touch of a razor during grooming activities, which can trigger fear, distress, or avoidance behaviors.

In ABA Therady, shaping is used to address sensory issues with a razor by reinforcing small, gradual steps that lead to the child’s ability to tolerate the razor sound, vibration, and touch during grooming.

In Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), shaping is very important when addressing sensory issues because it helps the child gradually tolerate and respond appropriately to sensory input without causing distress.
Addressing sensory sensitivity to razor sounds is important because it reduces distress, supports daily grooming skills, and helps the child tolerate real-world sounds in a calm and functional way.

Teaching Attributes in ABA Therapy focuses on expanding descriptive language and cognitive concepts (e.g. colors, shapes, sizes, and functions) to enhance communication and vocabulary. It is a Level 3, advanced program that uses multiple exemplars (real objects) and functional, context-based teaching to ensure generalization rather than just rote memorization.

Here are some different strategies for teaching attributes;
• Use Functional Attributes First: Focus on concepts that are relevant to the child’s daily life, such as “wet vs dry” during handwashing, or “hot” vs “cold” during meals.
• Multiple Exemplars: Rather than relying solely on flashcards, teach attributes using wide variety of real objects (e.g. dirty vs clean socks, small vs big toy cars) to help the child understand the concept across different items.
• Begin with Manding (Requesting): Teach attributes through manding to make the concept relevant. For example, the child requests a “big” cup instead of a “small” one, reinforcing the understanding of the attribute in a functional way.
• Avoid Memorization: Ensure the child is not just memorizing their ability to describe their world, label items more precisely, and understand complex in everyday, natural settings.
