As we welcome the yuletide season, it’s important for all of us—health workers, local officials, families, and community members—to come together and strengthen our commitment to safety, awareness, and responsible celebration. Every year, the holiday season brings not only joy and togetherness, but also a significant rise in firework-related injuries. This is why the Fireworks-Related Injury (FWRI) Surveillance Program remains a crucial public health initiative nationwide.

We encourage everyone to actively help in reducing these preventable injuries. Parents, please ensure that your children are supervised at all times. Remind them that fireworks are not toys. Community leaders, continue promoting safe alternatives such as regulated community fireworks displays. And for everyone celebrating, choose lawful pyrotechnics, maintain a safe distance, and avoid handling unfamiliar or modified devices.

As we celebrate the season, let us prioritize well-being, responsibility, and compassion. Help us spread the message. Share information. Encourage safe practices. Work with your barangay and local health offices. And most of all, set an example for your families and neighbors.

Together, we can significantly reduce firework-related injuries and make this year’s celebration truly meaningful, safe, and joyful.

Region 1 Medical Center Christmas Season Kick-Off and Lighting Ceremony

Region 1 Medical Center welcomed the holiday season with sparkle as it staged a Christmas kick-off and simultaneous lighting ceremony of its R1MC Arellano Main and the Binloc Annex that blended festive cheer with a profound sense of history as the institution continues to mark its 100th anniversary.

R1MC Medical Center Chief Dr. Joseph Roland O. Mejia captured the emotion of the moment in his Christmas message, calling the event “one of the most important activities of R1MC’s centennial year.” He described being part of the hospital’s 100th anniversary as “an extraordinary opportunity,” noting that such a milestone is a once-in-a-lifetime honor for the entire R1MC family.

The evening’s magic deepened as the UDD Chorale filled the grounds with classic Christmas melodies, their performance enveloping the crowd in warmth, nostalgia, and a shared sense of community. When the ceremonial lights finally shimmered to life, the celebration reached its peak with a vibrant fireworks display that painted the night sky and drew delighted cheers from the crowd.

More than just a festive gathering, the event signaled the buildup to the climax of R1MC’s centennial year.

Unwrapping R1MC’s Centennial Christmas Festivities

The hospital marks its 100th year with a spectacular, Filipiniana-themed December celebration as it blends heritage, unity, and holiday cheer in a truly memorable season of festivities.

The merriment begins on December 1 with the Christmas Lighting Ceremony, transforming the hospital grounds into a luminous display that welcomes a month of joy. From December 9 to 18, the Christmas League Sportsfest brings friendly competition to life as departments battle it out in the spirit of camaraderie.

On December 15, the Director’s Cup Shoot Fest adds energy and excitement, followed by a burst of color on December 16 with the MassKara Festival, where employees dazzle in lively dance performances and vibrant costumes.

The fun continues on December 17 with the highly anticipated Director’s Bingo 2025, featuring exciting prizes and an evening of laughter. Finally, the celebration culminates on December 18 with the Grand Hospital Christmas Party, where the theme Haute Couture Filipiniana takes center stage, honoring the institution’s rich history through elegance, culture, and unity.

A truly enchanting centennial Christmas awaits, celebrating both the season and a century of dedicated service.

We from R1MC- Geriatric Center are conducting a workshop entitled, "Caring Beyond Years: A Hands-On Workshop on Ageing and Assessment for Nurses." Our participants came from our institution and from different municipalities of Pangasinan.

As the population ages, the complexity of care increases. Assessing an elderly patient requires a different touch, a sharper eye, and specific tools. We are getting hands-on to master: Short Geriatric Assessment Tool, Distinguishing normal aging vs pathology, and Communication techniques for cognitive decline

Our nurses don't just provide care- they offer comfort, dignity, and genuine connection to our older community members.
