🐶 Pe**le Amputation in Dogs – What Pet Parents Should Know
Hearing the words “penile amputation” can sound scary 😥—but for some dogs, this surgery is actually life-saving and gives them a chance to live comfortably again.
💡 When is it needed?
➡️ Severe trauma or injury to the p***s
➡️ Tumors or cancer growth
➡️ Serious infections that don’t heal
➡️ Paraphimosis (when the p***s can’t retract back into the sheath, leading to swelling, pain, and tissue damage)
➡️ Irreversible damage causing pain or difficulty urinating
During surgery, the damaged part is removed, and a new opening (called a perineal urethrostomy) is created so your dog can still p*e normally.
✨ The good news: Dogs usually recover well, adapt quickly, and continue living happy, playful, and pain-free lives after the procedure.
👀 What to watch out for:
✔️ Blood in urine
✔️ Straining or difficulty urinating
✔️ Swelling, paraphimosis, or visible injury around the ge***al area
🚨 If you notice any of these signs, don’t delay—bring your dog to the vet immediately. Early treatment can make all the difference!
