DMSFI CRD is at the Forum by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW)!

On December 12, 2025, Dr. Maria Angelica Candelario-Plata (Lyka Plata) presented again the ANDITO Project (short for Advocating National Discourse to Integrate Telepsychiatry in Policies and Programs for Overseas Filipinos) to policymakers, researchers, and partner organizations of the DMW.

This forum aimed to "strengthen evidence-based policymaking and promote coordinated efforts among government and stakeholder networks." The forum ended with closing remarks "emphasizing the importance of sustained partnerships, data-driven strategies, and coordinated action to improve OFW welfare," and "reaffirmed its [DMW's] commitment to comprehensive protection, evidence-based reforms, and full-cycle reintegration support for Filipino migrant workers."

As โ€œresearch alone doesnโ€™t automatically become policy,โ€ โ€œthatโ€™s why, we support not just the generation of evidence, but the crucial work of transforming it into policy tools that make a real impact,โ€ said Dr. Jaime Montoya, Executive Director of DOST-PCHRD. And that is exactly how and why ANDITO project was established. "The project convened seven national agencies, including the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Department of Health (DOH), and PhilHealth, to address barriers such as connectivity, licensing, and financial sustainability. It produced seven policy briefs outlining coordinated strategies for technology-enabled mental health care across the migration cycle."

"The projectโ€™s main policy brief entitled, 'Integrating Telepsychiatry in Policies and Programs for Overseas Filipinos,' was endorsed by House Majority Leader Manuel Jose M. Dalipe following its presentation in national policy fora and inter-agency technical discussions. This endorsement marks a crucial step toward the legislative and institutional adoption of telepsychiatry in migrant mental health programs."

On December 4, 2025, representatives from the Davao Medical School Foundation, Inc., specifically from the DMSFI Center for Research and Development (CRD) and DMSFI Telemedicine attended the aforementioned national symposium which was organized by the Philippine Migrant Health Network.

It also supports safe e-prescriptions, drug information access, and teleconsultations.

This highlights the institution's contribution to provide positive impact and help guide policymakers in better understanding the gaps, challenges, and opportunities to ensure quality access of health services of migrants and their families.

Happy happy happy birthday, happy birthday ma'am Serah!!

Rara (a new CRD-exclusive nickname for her) might be one of the quietest in our office, a non-rare breed in our workplace; however, when it comes to providing work outputs, she'll definitely be ahead of a majority of us. Mind you, they're not just outputs, they're quality outputs; and the way she does them is amazing!

She's one of those who has "no qualms" about finishing something. She just focuses on the task at hand with sincerity and dedication, and does not complain or seek recognition. Just simply put in the effort because she values the integrity of the work itself.

Hmmm.. not work-wise.. How about a fun little story?

Well, in badminton, while everyone's running towards getting the shuttlecock returned to the other side of the net, or when she knows it's already going to be out.. she's just be chilling. ;)

Aaaand it's a brand new yearrr!! Happiest birthday to the one babe, ma'am Sheena Bulaong!

Ma'am Sheena, is one of the majority of CRD, an introvert. BUT, by all means this does not imply that you can't talk to her. She may be quite, but she has one of the unique talents some introverts want: being able to adjust to their environment. In other words, she has the grace and social intelligence to shift her approach to connect with the people around her.

Work-wise, she's a person of action. She's someone who doesn't wait to be told what to do or wait for a "perfect" moment. When she sees that there's a need to do something, she has the initiative to move quickly to address it. A great plus if you're her boss!

As for her hidden (but not so much now) talent, She(ena) can dance! We don't know yet if she can sing; but we have the whole 2026 to discover! ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Research Center is the Clinical Epidemiology and Science Research unit of the College of Medicine of the Davao Medical School Foundation, Inc.

This houses a modern research laboratory that supports the conduct of basic scientific researches, preclinical and clinical trials, the major goal of which is the development of potential herbal plants into therapeutic preparations that can be utilized by the community.

Ultimately, the research center could also collaborate with other institutions, government agencies, NGOs, and the private sector towards academic and scientific research.
