I regretted voting for Marcos Jr.
President Rodrigo Duterte, warned us about the former dictator’s son, that he will make a very weak president.
I did not listen to our former president as I was desperate to break free from the mold of Luzon taking all my tax money to enrich their own development, thereby, giving Visayas and Mindanao scraps just to make ends meet.
I refuse to bow to a centralized form of government that sucked this country bone dry from more than 40 years of self-serving public service riding in luxury cars and living in posh houses, while our brethren from Visayas and Mindanao are cleaning their toilets to support their poverty-stricken families.
I did not listen to our former president because VP Sarah Duterte at that time did not have the courage to become president, needed a gaunt little person from Luzon to back her up.
She did not only fail to break the mold of a Mindanaoan submitting to a person from Luzon with palms wide open like a miserable street beggar asking for spare change.
I did not listen to our former president because there was a glimpse of hope that one day, this man called Marcos, like Duterte himself united the nation to rise again from the pit of the title of third world nation.
It was a breath of fresh air that a man from Mindanao made presidents of superpower countries honor him (unlike former presidents who viewed themselves as kings of the Philippines but seen as mere flies by rich countries.) I felt that honor with pride and a wide smile.
I regret every single day that I casted that vote under the dictator’s son when I felt that accountability and honor simply vanished from Philippine politics for thirty pieces of silver.
I abhor these laughable group of religious and elites who view themselves as saviors of the country, when they themselves looked like hypocrites, no better than most of the Filipinos who fall victims to singing and dancing politicians on stage like puppets to a puppeteer.
I regret being silent for so long minding my own as politicians fill their pockets from my hard-earned money, guided by the inadequacies and the corrupt media.
I regretted giving the name Marcos a second chance to redeem himself yet squandered his chances for gold, dust and fleeting euphoria.
We as everyday normal Filipinos faced the consequences of all of our actions, corrupt and non-corrupt everyday citizens alike, should feel the need to rise and let our voices echo across our beloved nation to correct this mistake.
Because if not, we will always regret we voted for the traitorous son of the dictator.
