Just because the word “depression” wasn’t common before doesn’t mean it didn’t exist. Maraming tao noon ang tahimik lang na nag-struggle. Hindi dahil mas matibay sila, but because they didn’t have the language or safe space to talk about it.
Today’s youth aren’t weak for saying “I’m depressed.” In fact, it takes courage to admit you’re not okay. It takes strength to ask for help. Mental health is not about pagiging dramatic — it’s about acknowledging real struggles that affect how a person thinks, feels, and functions.
If we want a stronger generation, we shouldn’t shame them for speaking up. We should listen, understand, and support. Because sometimes, real strength is choosing to heal instead of staying silent.
