Many advances have been made in our efforts to treat pain. Understanding pain has been proven to be one of the most promising treatments.

However, opioids which have never and still not been proven to be effective for chronic pain is still a big problem. In this video, you can learn more about what may have contributed to the excessive use of opioids in the USA.

Whistleblower Joe Rannazzisi says drug distributors pumped opioids into U.S. communities -- knowing that people were dying -- and says industry lobbyists and Congress derailed the DEA's efforts to stop it

People experiencing low back pain are often prescribed exercises which intend to increase the stability of the spine. However, there is no evidence to support that the spine should be unstable and as this new study points out it would seem that people with back pain actually have increased activity of the spinal muscles than people without pain.

Time to embrace the evidence and stop scaring people?

This study found that people with low back pain had MORE core activity, compared with pain-free controls.

This is contradictory to the erroneous belief that people with low back pain have 'unstable' backs.

A new study shows opioids were no better than ibuprofen or paracetamol at reducing lower back pain over a 12-month period, yet these opioids came with the threat of dependence and addiction, which has been blamed for an increase in accidental overdoses.

Today, there is still not a single study showing opioids being any good for stubborn, persistent or chronic pain! Why do we keep prescribing these drugs when we know the harm outweighs potential benefits and we know there is a better way?

Someone must be winning but it sure isn't the patients.

Posture is a hot topic and many claims are made regularly that "fixing" your posture can fix your pain problems. While there is a whole industry build on "fixing" posture through training, clothes or merchandise and a general agreement in society that you can have a "good" or "bad" posture this idea is totally unfounded and the built body of evidence supports no ideal posture as well as no evil posture.

- Asymmetry in the skeleton is normal
- Asymmetric strength in the body is normal
- Leg length discrepancy is normal (90% are born this way)

Something to think about

Right now, billions of neurons in your brain are working together to generate a conscious experience -- and not just any conscious experience, your experience of the world around you and of yourself within it. How does this happen? According to neuroscientist Anil Seth, we're all hallucinating all t...

Many people believe that if conservative treatment fails the only and perhaps best solution (should have started there!) is surgical intervention.

But is that belief correct?

Tiger Woods a famous golf player have now undergone 4 surgical interventions and the result? Still pain. Here is an article highlighting evidence which casts doubt on fusion surgery for back pain.

https://www.statnews.com/2017/06/01/tiger-woods-spinal-fusion-back-surgery/

Spinal fusion, which Woods recently underwent, is rising in prevalence, but it often doesn't work and can drive patients to long-term dependence on opioids.
