Mental health and spirituality can go hand-in-hand but invalidating remarks about an individual's "lack of faith" can do more harm than good.

"Depression? Dahil yan sa lack of faith."

Depression is no way due to the lack of faith. One can be faithful but still be diagnosed with depression.

Although everyone has their own beliefs, remarks like this are not helpful.
Note that the individual may not share your spiritual values – and even if they do, they may already be wrestling with different emotions such as feeling guilty or worried that God is somehow punishing or testing them for something they've done.
This could potentially drive them further away from their religion or spirituality.

If they are religious, instead of using faith to invalidate them, you can assure them that the Lord will be with them and that you will pray for them.
