Breakfast is more than just the first meal of the day. It is also the fuel that powers childrenโ€™s minds and bodies at the start of the day, supporting learning at school and daily growth.
A healthy breakfast provides children with sustained energy and supports the physical activities performed throughout the day. Studies show that eating breakfast helps students concentrate better in class and perform well academically.
Using the Pinggang Pinoy ยฎ as a guide, a nutritious breakfast becomes easier to plan!
Aim for a balanced plate with:
๐—š๐—ผ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐˜€ like rice, bread, or oatmeal, which provide energy to support bodily functions and physical activity.
๐—š๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜„ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐˜€ like eggs, fish, or milk needed for the growth and development of muscles, bones, and tissues.
๐—š๐—น๐—ผ๐˜„ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐˜€ like fruits and vegetables, which are packed with essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber needed to enhance immune function and promote healthy digestion.
Aside from these, adequate hydration is also important in maintaining body temperature and supporting physical and cognitive functions, including concentration, memory, and mood, which are crucial for learning.
Children get the right balance of nutrients to stay active, alert, and ready to learn by following Pinggang Pinoy ยฎ!
Make every morning count. Serve a nutritious breakfast daily and set the tone for a smarter and stronger day ahead.

Lactation or breastfeeding increases a mother's nutrient needs due to the demands of breast milk production and blood loss during childbirth.

Vitamin C is important during lactation because it is a natural and essential antioxidant component of breast milk.

Did you know that the amount of vitamin C in breast milk is directly influenced by the motherโ€™s diet?

The Philippine Dietary Reference Intakes 2015 of DOST-FNRI recommends that lactating mothers consume 95 milligrams (mg) of vitamin C daily, while pregnant women need 70 mg.

While citrus fruits are often the โ€œgo-toโ€ source of vitamin C, did you know that guava packs more vitamin C?

A single red guava contains ๐Ÿต๐Ÿฑ ๐—บ๐—ด ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—–, such that one piece can fully meet a lactating motherโ€™s daily vitamin C needs.

Snacking on guava is not only a simple and delicious choice, but it also provides a natural boost of vitamin C for lactating moms.

Stay tuned for more tips and updates to Eat Right, EATS FNRI!
