Rabies is a 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 that can affect both humans and animals. What many people don’t realize is that 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘂𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘁 (𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲) 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀—𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀—before any symptoms appear. During this time, a person may feel completely fine 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸.

Once rabies symptoms begin—such as fever, confusion, difficulty swallowing, or fear of water—𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲, and the disease is almost always fatal.

🐶😺 𝗔𝗡𝗬 animal bite or scratch, no matter how small or shallow, carries the risk of rabies. This includes 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀, 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀. You do not have to wait for symptoms to show. In fact, waiting can be deadly.
