World Immunization Week 2023, themed "The Big Catch Up," is approaching, highlighting the urgent need to prioritize immunization efforts in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Vaccines have consistently proven to be highly effective in preventing the spread of infectious diseases and protecting public health, leading to the eradication of diseases like smallpox and significant reductions in diseases such as polio, measles, and hepatitis B.

As we observe World Immunization Week from April 24-30, our focus is on prioritizing routine immunization programs and closing the gap in vaccine coverage caused by the pandemic. Through vaccination, promoting vaccine education, and advocating for equitable vaccine access, we can make a substantial impact on global health. Let's come together to catch up on missed vaccinations, promote vaccine awareness, and work towards a healthier, safer world for all.

This April 17, 2023, we commemorate World Hemophilia Day to raise awareness about a rare bleeding disorder that affects 1 in 5,000 male births, with about 400 babies being born with hemophilia A each year.

Hemophilia is a genetic condition in which the blood doesn't clot properly. Depending on the severity of the condition, symptoms may range from excessive bleeding and easy bruising to severe cases of internal bleeding that can be life-threatening.

It is caused by a deficiency in certain proteins called clotting factors, which are needed to form a blood clot. There are several types of hemophilia, but the two most common types are hemophilia A and hemophilia B, which are caused by deficiencies in clotting factors VIII and IX, respectively.

Living with hemophilia can be challenging not only for patients but also for their families. They face difficulties in accessing proper treatment, managing bleeding episodes, and coping with the emotional and financial burden that comes with the condition.

This year's theme, "Access for All: Prevention of bleeds as the global standard of care," highlights the importance of taking coordinated and concerted actions to achieve the vision of “Treatment for all” by advocating for improved access to treatment and care, with an emphasis on better control and prevention of bleeds for all people with bleeding disorders.

Let us come together to show support for people with hemophilia and their families. We encourage early diagnosis and treatment to help manage the symptoms and improve their quality of life. Spread awareness about hemophilia and advocate for equal access to proper care and treatment for all.

As we celebrate World Health Day, let us reflect on the significance of our health. Despite the vastness of the universe, our health is what enables us to live life to the fullest. It serves as the foundation for pursuing our passions, achieving our dreams, and leaving our mark on the world.

The recent pandemic has reminded us of the fragility of our existence and the importance of taking care of ourselves and our communities.

In honor of this year's World Health Day, let's make a commitment to prioritize our health every day. We can achieve this by making time for physical activities, consuming healthy foods, and practicing self-care. By prioritizing our health, we also contribute to the health of those around us.

Let's join hands and work together to build a healthier and happier future by prioritizing our health.
