𝗢𝗧𝗖 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸-𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲.

❌ MISTAKE 1: 𝙊𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙩𝙖𝙢𝙤𝙡

Many people think paracetamol is always safe.

𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘥𝘰:
Take it too often
Take higher doses for faster relief
Use multiple products with paracetamol

𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘬𝘺:
Too much paracetamol can damage the liver
Overdose may happen without warning

𝘚𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳:
Take only the recommended dose and check if other medicines contain paracetamol.

❌ MISTAKE 2: 𝙈𝙞𝙭𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝙈𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨

Cold and flu products often contain similar ingredients.

𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘥𝘰:
Take two different cold medicines together
Combine tablets, syrups, and powders

𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘬𝘺:
You may double the same drug
This can cause overdose or side effects

𝘚𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳:
Read labels carefully and avoid taking medicines with the same ingredients.

❌ MISTAKE 3: 𝙏𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙊𝙏𝘾 𝙈𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙒𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝘼𝙡𝙘𝙤𝙝𝙤𝙡

𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘥𝘰:
Drink alcohol while taking pain relievers or cough medicines

𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘬𝘺:
Increases risk of liver damage
May cause dizziness, drowsiness, or accidents

❌ MISTAKE 4: 𝙐𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙈𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨

𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘥𝘰:
Keep old medicines “just in case”
Use them even after expiration

𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘬𝘺:
Medicines may not work properly
Some may become unsafe over time

𝘚𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳:
Check expiration dates and dispose of expired medicines properly.

𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁. 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗹. 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝘆.
Here are 7 steps to follow to ensure you are taking medication safely:

Step 1:
𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹. Read the name of the medicine and its purpose. Make sure it is the exact medicine prescribed for you.

Step 2:
𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝘀𝗲.Confirm how much to take, how often to take it, and for how many days. Never guess or adjust the dose on your own.

Step 3:
𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲. Expired medicines may not work properly and could be unsafe.

Step 4:
Next, 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝘆.Follow the instructions exactly as directed. Do not skip doses and do not double your next dose if you forget one.

Step 5:
𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆.Keep them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, and always out of reach of children.

Step 6:
𝗗𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲. Prescriptions are personalized. What is safe and effective for you may not be safe for someone else.

Step 7:
Lastly, 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀.
Stopping too early may cause the infection to return and contribute to resistance.

𝙎𝙖𝙛𝙚 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙮𝙤𝙪.

𝐑𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐄𝐅 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐏𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒: 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐕𝐀𝐓-𝐄𝐗𝐄𝐌𝐏𝐓 𝐌𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒

Good news for Filipino patients. The government has released an updated list of VAT-exempt medicines under the TRAIN Law and the CREATE Act, helping make essential treatments more affordable.

Following careful evaluation by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the updated list was endorsed to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and formalized through Revenue Memorandum Circular (RMC) No. 108-2025. This ensures that VAT exemptions are applied correctly and that outdated or incorrect medicine listings are no longer used.

This update is especially important for patients with chronic and life-threatening conditions, as VAT exemption helps lower medicine prices and reduce out-of-pocket expenses for families.

Through strong coordination between government agencies, this initiative supports Universal Health Care and the goal of providing safe, quality, and affordable medicines for all Filipinos.
