As we approach National Pharmacy Week 2025 on December 8-12, the Philippine Pharmacists Association (PPhA) proudly invites the nation to celebrate the vital role of the pharmacy profession in building a healthier Philippines.

This year’s theme, “𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆, 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲, 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗣𝗵𝗔: 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲,” reflects our collective mission to strengthen the country’s healthcare system through unity, service, and continuous advancement of the profession.

National Pharmacy Week is a yearly nationwide observance that highlights the contributions of pharmacists and the entire pharmacy workforce in ensuring safe, effective, and accessible healthcare for all Filipinos. It is a time to recognize the profession’s commitment to medication safety, patient-centered care, public health, and professional excellence across all practice areas.

Dahil sa pagdami ng mga binebentang pekeng gamot at iba pang produktong medikal sa merkado, nagpaalala ang DOH na maging mapanuri at huwag bilhin kung:

❌May mali sa label o spelling at kakaiba ang itsura ng packaging
❌Kulang ang FDA batch/ lot number, manufacturing at expiration date
❌Kakaiba ang itsura ng gamot tulad ng hugis, amoy, o lasa
❌Walang bisa
❌Walang lisensya ang seller o ang pasilidad para magbenta

FAST FACTS ABOUT ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE (AMR)
1. Incomplete doses = stronger bacteria.
Stopping antibiotics early allows surviving bacteria to mutate and become resistant.

2. New antibiotics are rare.
Pharmaceutical companies are producing fewer new antibiotics, while resistance grows — kaya critical ang tamang paggamit.

3. AMR affects everyone — rich or poor, young or old.
Anyone can get an antibiotic-resistant infection. Prevention is key.

4. Pharmacists play a leading role.
