Itβs World AIDS Day!
The World Health Organization (WHO) has set Dec. 1 as World AIDS Day to help raise awareness and show support for people living with HIV.
Did you know?
If the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), a virus that attacks the bodyβs immune system, is not treated, it can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
Currently, there is no effective cure to HIV/AIDS.
The latest data from the Department of Healthβs (DOH) HIV/AIDS & ART Registry of the Philippines (HARP) released in September show that there are 90,960 total reported cases of HIV from January 1984 to September 2021. Of this, 54,022 people living with HIV (PLHIV) are presently on antiretroviral therapy (ART).
In the Philippines, males are the most affected by this disease, with 85,578 total reported cases, while reported cases among females stand at 5,371 from 1984 to September this year.
The ages of reported cases range from 1 to 81 years with a median of 32 years old.
