The Beautiful Reciprocity of Healing: A Physical Therapist's Reflection

Life’s beauty is not found in perfection, but in its fierce, unwavering resilience. As a physical therapist, I have the profound privilege of seeing this truth unfold every single day. My world exists at the intersection of vulnerability and strength—the space where a person, perhaps broken or disheartened, begins the slow, arduous climb back to the self they once knew, or even better, the self they always dreamt of becoming. That transformation is the most inspiring phenomenon I will ever witness.

My clients often walk through the door carrying pain that is both physical and emotional—the sorrow of lost mobility, the frustration of interrupted goals. They’re no longer running, lifting their grandchild, or simply walking without fear. Their dreams feel distant. But then, the shift happens. It starts small: a millimeter of movement, a fraction less pain, a moment of genuine hope lighting up their eyes. This spark, this fundamental human drive to heal and move forward, is the fuel that keeps my engine running. It is the clearest testament to the spectacular nature of life itself.

My role is technical, yes, but it is ultimately about guidance, encouragement, and holding a vision for them that they temporarily can't hold for themselves. Seeing the moment they achieve a milestone—the first unassisted step, the pain-free swing of an arm, the triumphant return to a favorite activity—is a reward beyond measure. It's the validation that the body is an incredible machine, and the human spirit is an unstoppable force. Watching them not just heal, but embody the strength and capability they once dreamt of having, is the very definition of professional fulfillment.

This daily witness to recovery doesn't just motivate me in the clinic; it informs how I approach my own life. I am constantly reminded that life is an ongoing process of growth and adaptation. Just as I encourage my clients to welcome their bodies' changes and new limitations, I too am still growing and learning what life is, welcoming what it has to offer, both the expected successes and the unexpected challenges. This beautiful reciprocity of healing—where I help others find their best selves, and in turn, they inspire me to be my best self—is what makes this journey so powerful and endlessly beautiful. I am committed to doing my best, always learning, and always holding space for the next extraordinary transformation.

Salamat Mai, sa pagsarig kag nangin parti ako sang journey mo to recovery. Wala pa matapos akon mission sa imo kay wala pa matuman ang ginpamangkot mo sa akon. We’ll be praying for that blessing very soon. 🙏🥰

We were operating on call for emergencies throughout the duration of the typhoon.

The case involved Jasper, a patient with a history of recurrent shoulder dislocation. I initially received his message via Messenger at 12:31 PM, but communication was highly unstable due to the intermittent internet signal. His family had already attempted to seek treatment at Western hospital, but they were unfortunately denied care because there was no orthopedic doctor on duty, forcing them to return home.

When I received his desperate follow-up message around 3:00 PM, I immediately instructed him to call my direct mobile number to ensure reliable communication. We agreed they should come to the clinic immediately.

Upon arrival, Jasper was visibly distressed, presenting with clammy hands and wearing an improvised sling. His pain was severe enough to cause elevated blood pressure. When I asked him to lie down for an easier reduction attempt, he stated he could not, due to difficulty breathing in the supine position.

After a few careful initial attempts proved unsuccessful, I paused the process. I had him focus on his breathing before applying a final, decisive maneuver: a steady, firm, and swift pull. The shoulder instantly popped back into place, providing immediate relief.

The picture of him smiling immediately after the fix was the best confirmation of a successful outcome.

CRITICAL REMINDER: Please save my direct mobile number and use it for emergencies. Do not rely on social media applications like Messenger, as connectivity is often the first thing to fail during severe weather events.

Stay safe! 🧡🧡🧡
