The TULAY Project—led by the University of Plymouth and De La Salle University—is revolutionizing community-based physical rehabilitation services in the Philippines. Through this powerful international collaboration, they are co-designing a comprehensive program to deliver quality, accessible care to underserved communities.

As part of its continued efforts to protect children from measles and rubella, the Department of Health is actively implementing the Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA). Recently, Usec. Emmie Liza P. Chiong - Cluster lead of Health Regulations and Facility Development Cluster (HRFDC) and Chief
Information Officer, together with DOH CHD–Northern Mindanao Regional Director IV Dr. Sulpicio Henry M. Legaspi Jr. and DMO IV Hilario C. Chan, visited Initao to monitor the implementation of this vital program.

The visit centered on the ongoing MR-SIA at the Initao Super Health Center in Barangay Kamelon, which focused on immunizing children aged 6–59 months. While child immunization remained the priority, health services were extended to all age groups through the provision of ultrasound examinations, medical consultations, and dental extractions.

The activity was further strengthened by the presence of Mayor Mercy Grace Acain, reflecting strong local government support. Health services were made possible through the dedicated efforts of Dr. Sarah Jane Lagamon, Dr. Aaron Paolo Roa, Dr. Nanette A. Libot, and Dr. Mohammad Salaman L. Gurar. Salamat doctors, nurses, and midwives of the Rural Health Unit (RHU) Initao, with vital assistance from Barangay Health Workers. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the Department of Tourism Initao and the Barangay Kamelon local officials for their support and efforts in ensuring the smooth and successful conduct of the activity.

This monitoring visit reaffirms the Department’s commitment to effective program implementation, strengthened oversight, and sustained disease prevention efforts. We commend the parents who brought their children for vaccination and encourage everyone to take part in protecting community health

Pabakuna namo ug adto sa inyo duol health centers.

Last November 29, 2025, the Department of Fire Protection (DFP) Initao conducted a comprehensive fire and earthquake drill at the Super Health Center in Kamelon. The activity aimed to strengthen the readiness of staff and nearby community members by ensuring that proper safety measures and emergency responses are clearly understood and effectively practiced.

Participants were trained on evacuation procedures, fire response techniques, and essential steps to take during an earthquake. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on simulations, the drill helped build confidence, awareness, and quick decision-making—skills that are crucial in protecting lives during real emergencies.

We extend our appreciation to the DFP team for their commitment to promoting safety and disaster preparedness. Their expertise greatly contributed to enhancing the facility’s readiness and resilience. With continued collaboration and training, we move closer to building a community that is alert, prepared, and disaster-resilient.

EN | Our 5th Co-Design session here in Initao, Misamis Oriental helped establish a framework for developing resources tailored to the community. In collaboration with stroke survivors, carers, and healthcare professionals, we not only identified their needs but also determined ways to amplify their voices and stories.

October 9, 2025
