The Department of Health has clarified that the so-called “super flu” recently detected in the Philippines is not a cause for public alarm, following reports of its spread in several parts of the world. Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa confirmed that only 17 cases were recorded in Metro Manila between July and August last year, and all affected individuals have since fully recovered. As of this posting, there are no active or newly recorded cases in the country, indicating that local transmission remains limited and under control. The DOH continues to closely monitor global developments related to emerging flu variants as part of its routine disease surveillance.

Despite the low risk at present, health authorities are encouraging the public to remain cautious, particularly Filipinos traveling to temperate regions such as North America and the United Kingdom, where flu activity is currently higher. Secretary Herbosa emphasized the importance of vaccination, proper hygiene, and awareness of health conditions abroad to reduce the risk of infection. The DOH reiterated that preparedness, early prevention, and informed travel practices remain the most effective tools in protecting public health while avoiding unnecessary panic.
