February is National Oral Health Month in the Philippines โ a nationwide reminder that caring for our teeth and gums is caring for our overall health. Good oral hygiene helps prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and other health problems, especially among children and families in our communities.
In line with this celebration, the Basilan Medical Center Dental Health Unit, led by Dentist IV, Dr. Jannette F. Quir, conducted a series of Oral Health Education Campaigns in schools, barangays, and hospital units. The team shared practical lessons on proper toothbrushing, the importance of fluoride, healthy food choices, and the value of regular dental check-ups.
Through the support of the BasMC Public Health Unit, the campaign reached Kawa-Kawa Elementary School, Brgy. Maganda, Brgy. Martha, Brgy. Santa Clara, Pilas Island, Brgy. Menzi, and Brgy. Diki in Malamawi โ including fire-affected families. Fluoride application was conducted, and Oral Health Family Packages were distributed in every area visited, ensuring families have the tools to practice good oral hygiene at home. The advocacy further extended within the hospital through ward and OPD health campaigns in partnership with our HEPO, bringing oral health awareness directly to admitted patients and outpatient clients.
This initiative was made possible through the guidance and support of our Medical Center Chief, Dr. Sitti Nurussamsi Amilasan, and the collective effort of our dedicated partners and volunteers.
Together, we continue to promote healthier smiles and stronger communities โ one toothbrush, one family, one barangay at a time. ๐
