The Basilan Medical Center proudly congratulates our esteemed Medical Center Chief, Dr. Sitti Nurussamsi C. Amilasan, MD, MPH, on her promotion and oath-taking as Medical Center Chief II, held at the Department of Health and facilitated by Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa, MD.

Dr. Amilasan was first appointed as Medical Center Chief I on June 1, 2018 at what was then the Basilan General Hospital. Under her steadfast leadership, the institution has achieved remarkable milestones in service delivery, infrastructure development, and the continued pursuit of quality healthcare for the people of Basilan.

Now, as she officially assumes her post as Medical Center Chief II of the Basilan Medical Center, effective October 27, 2025, this milestone marks not only a personal achievement but also a testament to her unwavering dedication, integrity, and commitment to public health and organizational excellence.

Her promotion stands as an inspiration to the entire Basilan Medical Center family — a reflection of visionary leadership and an enduring pursuit of compassionate, equitable, and quality healthcare for all.

As part of the week-long Joint Medical, Surgical Mission and Training conducted in partnership with the Western Visayas Medical Center, the Basilan Medical Center successfully held the Incident Command System (ICS) Executive Course—a vital capacity-building initiative organized by the PETRU headed by Mr. Reymart E. Dabalos, RN, EMT, and HEMS led by DRRM-H Manager Mr. Albert De Los Reyes, RM, EMT.

The training was facilitated by esteemed speakers Ms. Rose Karen Hijosa, RN from Western Visayas Medical Center and Ms. Emilia Julhajan from the Office of Civil Defense, who shared their expertise and practical insights on the core concepts and applications of the Incident Command System in healthcare and disaster response.

The ICS Executive Course is a vital program designed to enhance the knowledge and preparedness of hospital leaders and responders in managing emergencies and large-scale incidents through an organized command structure. Participants from Basilan Medical Center gained a deeper understanding of coordination, communication, and decision-making processes — key elements in ensuring an effective and unified emergency response during critical situations.

This training holds great significance for Basilan Medical Center as it strengthens institutional readiness, promotes leadership in crisis management, and reinforces the hospital’s role as a frontline responder in times of disaster. 🚑 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐮𝐦𝐚 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐢𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 🚑

As part of the recently concluded Joint Medical, Surgical Mission and Training in collaboration with the Western Visayas Medical Center, the Basilan Medical Center, through its Health Emergency Management Services (HEMS) headed by our DRRM-H Manager, Mr. Albert De Los Reyes, RM, EMT, successfully organized the Essential Trauma for First Aid Responder Training.

The training was led by distinguished resource speakers Dr. Roy Joseph T. Trinidad and Ms. Rose Karen Hijosa, RN, who shared their expertise on the crucial principles of trauma management, immediate life-saving interventions, and effective coordination during emergencies.

Participants included first responders and representatives from various emergency and disaster response agencies such as the Bureau of Fire Protection - Isabela City, Bureau of Fire Protection - Lamitan City, the Philippine Army, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), and Basilan Medical Center’s HEMS and Emergency Room Nurses.

This comprehensive and hands-on training aimed to enhance the responders’ competencies in providing timely, efficient, and coordinated trauma care in pre-hospital and emergency settings. It also served as a platform for strengthening inter-agency collaboration—ensuring a unified and effective response in times of crisis and mass casualty incidents.

Basilan Medical Center continues to uphold its commitment to capacity-building and community resilience, empowering healthcare workers and responders to save lives and deliver prompt, quality emergency care when it matters most.

Last October 27–30, 2025, the Basilan Medical Center, in partnership with the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC), successfully conducted a Joint Medical, Surgical Mission and Training — a remarkable collaboration aimed at extending specialized medical and surgical care to the people of Basilan.

Throughout the mission, patients benefited from various surgical procedures including Cholecystectomy, Hemorrhoidectomy, Thyroidectomy, Herniorrhaphy, Cyst Removal, and Cleft Lip Repair. The activity not only provided life-changing medical interventions but also served as a valuable training opportunity for our local healthcare professionals — strengthening their knowledge, skills, and capacity in surgical and patient care.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the WVMC Surgical Team headed by Dr. Roy Joseph T. Trinidad, together with Dr. Ryan Ed Comuelo, Dr. Guadalupe Matejka, Dr. Angelie Paz Azurin, Dr. Paul Coronilla, Dr. Rovileen Gencianeo, Dr. Rommel Arvin Manderico, Dr. Nerfe Bryan Ganzaludo, Dr. Jehanna Abdurahman and the dedicated nursing staff Ms. Leslie Gayatgay, RN, Ms. Rose Karen Hijosa, RN, for sharing their time, expertise, and compassion with our community.

We likewise extend our profound appreciation to the entire workforce of Basilan Medical Center—particularly the Nursing Service Division, Medical Division, Ancillary Division, PETRU, and HEMS—for their exemplary dedication, professionalism, and collaborative spirit that greatly contributed to the success of this undertaking. Throughout the week-long observance, Basilan Medical Center honored our nurses through a series of engaging and meaningful activities. The celebration began with the Opening Ceremony and Battle of the Brains Competition, followed by the staff’s attendance at a professional seminar and a Medical Mission at the BJMP — reflecting the true spirit of service beyond the hospital walls. The week concluded with a memorable Culmination Program, featuring inspiring audio-visual presentations, peer recognitions, intermission performances, and the much-awaited Search and Crowning of Ms. Nightingale 2025.

In its continued effort to strengthen emergency preparedness and disaster response capabilities, the Basilan Medical Center successfully conducted a three-day Basic Life Support and Standard First Aid Training held last October 15–17, 2025, organized by the Health Emergency Management Staff (HEMS) headed by Mr. Albert A. De Los Reyes, RM, EMT, in collaboration with the Professional Education Training and Research Unit (PETRU) led by Mr. Reymart E. Dabalos, RN, EMT, MN.

The training gathered participants from Basilan Medical Center, Furigay Colleges Inc., and uniformed personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and from the 45th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army. Over the course of three days, the participants were immersed in a series of lectures, demonstrations, and practical return demonstrations designed to enhance their knowledge and skills in providing life-saving interventions during emergencies. The sessions covered Basic Life Support, Standard First Aid, as well as demonstrations on the transportation and moving of victims, and proper bandaging techniques. The activity concluded with a skills assessment, return demonstration, and an awarding ceremony recognizing the participants’ successful completion of the training.

The event was graced by our Medical Center Chief II, Dr. Sitti Nurussamsi C. Amilasan, who warmly welcomed the participants and delivered an inspiring message highlighting the importance of continuous training and readiness among health professionals and emergency responders.

The training was facilitated by a team of highly skilled lecturers, including Mr. Albert A. De Los Reyes, RM, EMT BasMC’s DRRM-H Manager, Mr. Reymart E. Dabalos, RN, MN, EMT, BasMC PETRU Head/ Training Officer Designate, Mr. Alsam Sakkam, RN, BasMC ER Nurse, PSMS Allan Kryst B. Cuevas, RN, PNP SAF, JO3 Marvin Sacristan, RN, BJMP, Ms. Irene Francisco, EMT, CDRRMO, Mr. Ernesto Marcelino, from PDRRMO and SFO1 Giancarlo M. Diaz, RN, from BFP whose expertise greatly contributed to the success of the activity.

This initiative comes at a timely moment, following the recent earthquakes experienced in different parts of the Philippines, reminding everyone of the vital role of preparedness and immediate response in saving lives. Through these capacity-building activities, BasMC, under the leadership of Dr. Amilasan, reaffirms its commitment to equip both healthcare workers and uniformed personnel with essential life-saving skills. The hospital, through its HEMS, continues to uphold its mission of promoting safety, resilience, and readiness in times of emergencies and disasters.
