In its continued effort to strengthen emergency preparedness and disaster response capabilities, the Basilan Medical Center successfully conducted a three-day Basic Life Support and Standard First Aid Training held last October 15โ17, 2025, organized by the Health Emergency Management Staff (HEMS) headed by Mr. Albert A. De Los Reyes, RM, EMT, in collaboration with the Professional Education Training and Research Unit (PETRU) led by Mr. Reymart E. Dabalos, RN, EMT, MN.
The training gathered participants from Basilan Medical Center, Furigay Colleges Inc., and uniformed personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and from the 45th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army. Over the course of three days, the participants were immersed in a series of lectures, demonstrations, and practical return demonstrations designed to enhance their knowledge and skills in providing life-saving interventions during emergencies. The sessions covered Basic Life Support, Standard First Aid, as well as demonstrations on the transportation and moving of victims, and proper bandaging techniques. The activity concluded with a skills assessment, return demonstration, and an awarding ceremony recognizing the participantsโ successful completion of the training.
The event was graced by our Medical Center Chief II, Dr. Sitti Nurussamsi C. Amilasan, who warmly welcomed the participants and delivered an inspiring message highlighting the importance of continuous training and readiness among health professionals and emergency responders.
The training was facilitated by a team of highly skilled lecturers, including Mr. Albert A. De Los Reyes, RM, EMT BasMCโs DRRM-H Manager, Mr. Reymart E. Dabalos, RN, MN, EMT, BasMC PETRU Head/ Training Officer Designate, Mr. Alsam Sakkam, RN, BasMC ER Nurse, PSMS Allan Kryst B. Cuevas, RN, PNP SAF, JO3 Marvin Sacristan, RN, BJMP, Ms. Irene Francisco, EMT, CDRRMO, Mr. Ernesto Marcelino, from PDRRMO and SFO1 Giancarlo M. Diaz, RN, from BFP whose expertise greatly contributed to the success of the activity.
This initiative comes at a timely moment, following the recent earthquakes experienced in different parts of the Philippines, reminding everyone of the vital role of preparedness and immediate response in saving lives. Through these capacity-building activities, BasMC, under the leadership of Dr. Amilasan, reaffirms its commitment to equip both healthcare workers and uniformed personnel with essential life-saving skills. The hospital, through its HEMS, continues to uphold its mission of promoting safety, resilience, and readiness in times of emergencies and disasters.
