๐ฃ๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐๐๐๐จ๐ฆ๐จ๐๐๐ก (๐ฃ๐) ๐๐๐จ๐ก๐๐ ๐๐ง ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ก๐๐๐ฌ ๐๐๐๐ | The Department of Health - Zamboanga Peninsula Center for Health Development (DOH-ZPCHD) in partnership with the City Health Office (CHO) of Isabela de Basilan through the Rural Health Unit 3 - Malamawi launched PUROKalusugan (PK) today September 17, 2025 at Kalahi Multi-Purpose Hall in Barangay Diki.
PuroKalusugan is a health initiative launched by the Department of Health in the Philippines aimed at improving healthcare delivery to underserved populations through grassroots actions in local communities called โpuroksโ. The PuroKalusugan program is part of the DOHโs Eight-Point Action Agenda, which prioritizes vaccination, nutrition, water sanitation, maternal health, tuberculosis (TB) and HIV screening, road safety, non-communicable disease prevention, and cancer treatment. By focusing on these eight areas, the program aims to reduce health disparities and improve overall well-being.
LGU Midwife handling Barangay Diki, Ms. Ellaina Lagoyo had a lecture the Family Planning Program which aims to educate participants about methods, benefits, and importance of family planning in managing reproductive health. She enumerated on various methods like contraceptive pills, condoms, IUDs, and natural methods.
Ms. Lagoyo emphasizes on the benefits like spacing pregnancies, reducing maternal and child mortality, and socioeconomic advantages and the focus on enabling individuals and couples to make informed choices about their reproductive health.
A lecture on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) by DOH Midwife, Ms. Laila Hamad focuses on educating about diseases like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and cancers that aren't transmitted from person to person. She had an overview of common NCDs like cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancers, and chronic respiratory diseases. She reiterated on lifestyle factors like unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, to***co use, and harmful alcohol use and strategies for reducing risk through lifestyle changes and managing NCDs.
